How do you people not get the movie?

Are you mental midgets? The cops and his wife beat on him so hard -- made him think he was really attracted to little girls and committed the crimes. Look up the book "Brainwashed". Jesus, some people are dumb.

Agreed so many questions which Is cool but the movies is pretty easy to understand,I guess if your havin trouble watch it with the commentary on by the director or for the new and enhanced retard edition commentary by big Bird

ROFL! Thank you!

Darlin', don't ever take a Southern woman for granted!

It's not about being dumb - the problem is the atrocious writing. Nothing happens to coerce a confession, or to imply that he's being genuinely confused about what happened, or to scare him into thinking he has no choice. He is not broken down, or drugged, or mentally ill. He has no reason to confess on the basis of this script and the way it is directed.

He's broken when he finds out his wife thinks he's capable of committing the crimes. It is very evident in the movie.

Broken??? After gallivanting around the island taking pics of young girls? After marrying a girl he met at 11 yrs old? After doing teen aged hookers in the hoods of Puerto Rico? After not even trying to explain what he was doing with her niece? (She wouldn't have had those suspicions if it was the first time)

He continually lied about everything, he kept changing his story, for what!!! I agree, bad writing, bad directing and I wasn't even impressed with the acting. At NO time did I believe that Gene Hackman was an innocent high powered lawyer with a fist full of powerful friends and a bank full of money. Broken?? Enough to take a kid rapist/murder rap?!!!
He was a therapist and an explanation away from living the life of Riley...come on man!!!!

So what is your explanation? He admitted he did it because:________________

IMO, there is a huge difference between the sad acts he does commit and the acts (rape and murder) he falsely admits to at the end.

I am not saying it is great writing or a great movie but that is my take.
