How many people died in the nuke blast?

I know that it was supposed to be sort of a "fizzle" and that nukes kill far more people as airbursts than ground blasts, so it wasn't quite the perfect success the terrorists wanted, but just how big was it....

Nice point in ground v. above ground detonation. The brief POV of the mushroom cloud, probably along the magnitude of Nagasaki or even Hiroshima? But there was no mention KT or MT cap of the bomb. Sure for the sake of entertainment and shock value and imagination most inthe stadium were vaporized, with a countless number of others within a few or several kilometers from ground zero. At any rate it was enough to piss an otherwise rational president off.

Average attendance at the Superbowl is 78,000 fans, not including venue staffing. Presuming everyone in the stadium died, along with the immediate surroundings 100,000 is probably a conservative estimate for blast damage deaths.

Radiation Casualties would be harder to estimate.

The Film does not state, and the location of the bomb is totally different than the Novel. But in the Novel, the Bomb fizzled at about 7 kilotons. The stadium itself shielded the far side and there were some survivors even in the stadium itself. Total deaths were in the thousands, but still under about 15,000. Almost all within the stadium itself and within about 2 miles on the same side as the bomb was from the stadium.

DSPS Satellites figured it was much more powerful than it was because of the reflected thermal pulse off the massive parking lots surrounding the stadium.
