Why do females hate this movie

When looking at the reviews filter in Male/Female..

All the males like it, All the females hate it. Im not jokeing???

reply

I love this movie and Im a female.

One would imagine women would find it a bit insensitive when Sebastian is invisible in the womans room and starts undooing her top and then takes things a bit further...most women will tell you...we would wake up straight away is someone started fiddling around with us, which is why the womans delayed reaction in this film is a bit *rolls eyes*

Generally though I liked this film, I love Kevin Bacon ever since Footloose!

Well, I'm a guy and I didn't like "Hollow Man". I just couldn't get into the movie, and right from the start couldn't stand Kevin Bacon's character, Caine. Nothing against Bacon, he's a fine actor and gave fine performances in other films, but his character here was just unsympathetic from the get go, and that made it hard to give a damn about him when he started going nuts. It's not like in the remake of "The Fly" where you actually like Jeff Goldblum's character before he starts turning into the fly monster mutant and his mind starts crumbling; because Jeff is sympathetic in the first half, the audience is able to care about his character and what happens to him. You don't get that with Bacon's character in this film.

reply

Verhoeven always has unsympathetic characters in his movies even the protagonists.

This was my favourite film when I was a kid and I'm female.

Mind you... it's unbearable to watch now. What were you thinking?!

I thought the movie became very excessively violent toward the end.

This film started out crisp, but then deviated from its potential.

I have not seen it,but I'll rent it soon. I only saw the beginning, but the sound was so low and didn't exactly know that an invisible animal bit the rats head off. I assumed that Kevin's character ws trying to make the rat invisible, but the skin exploded or something like that. If I knew an invisible Gorilla killed the rat,I would have been more offended sooner. I didn't have time to watch more of Hollow Man because we were at a relatives house and we left that day.

I'm a woman and I thought it was ok. I own it albeit I only bought it cause it was cheap lol.

reply

I'm a female and i personally didn't like it because i didn't like seeing what was happening to the animals. I don't agree with animal testing and that is what the film is mainly about.. besides Kevin Bacon's character being invisible!
Anyhoo, The sexual contact between the Sebastian and the women didn't offend me.. we got to see boobs.. end of.
P.S. I am not a lesbian.. i have a boyfriend but do enjoy looking at the female anatomy.

I like to put my bum on things!
Johnny Depp is Sexeh!

I'm female and i really enjoy this movie, although i thought Kevin's character was a bit of an *beep* you could tell he was sexually aggressive before he was invisible, i found the transition of him going totally psycho quite interesting, some of the cgi scenes were great too, with the gorilla losing it's invisibility, that was great, and the blood pouring, some scenes were quite clever and cool. The only thing which pisses me off is that towards the end, Bacon's character seems to be a psycho who also can't get harmed from anything, he gets burnt, electricuted, beaten up, shot and sh** and it's like, wtf? Are you super strength too? Still enjoyed it though. Tempted to buy it actually.

The only thing which pisses me off is that towards the end

These things (all that you listed) can be objected by anybody, no matter what gender, only depending on I.Q. People whose I.Q. isn't equal or under the size of their shoes can't find it more convincing, logical or satisfying than the end of Little Riding Hood. Matt, Sebastian and even Linda are able to survive everything, probably they would survive the wolf's stomach either.

But I'd add that if Sebastian wasn't this type of person before he had the test performed, the other members of the team would notice the changes in him much sooner, and would be warned to do something - stop the test, report it to someone, or at least run and save lives. But, for a story and plot like this, a character like Sebastian was almost a conditio sine qua non.

reply

Bacon who can't get harmed from anything? Oh and what about LINDA?

"I don't agree with animal testing and that is what the film is mainly about."
What? You missed the part where the movie was about an invisible man going crazy and murderous?

reply

Yes everyone loves boobs.

I'm Female and I liked it, sci-fi's always been a favourite genre of mine. I do agree with somebody who posted they didn't care for KB's character, I thought he was an arrogant a s s h o l e from the jump and he didn't impress me much. I will say, however, that at least they tried to counter the breast shots with KB's frontal nudity flashes...which is something that is rare in most other movies that seem to rely on the gratuitous breast shots, constantly.

I liked this movie, and I just so happen to be a female as well. However, I really hated the part where Sebastian killed the dog.

I don't like how some people are rooting for the main character and act like they'd do the same thing. You would rape women? I hate it when people don't treat rape like the horrible violation it is. Male or female, it is a terrible trauma when it happens to you and we should never make light of it or ignore victims.
