Kind of ironic..

When I saw this, being re-run on USA Network, I found it ironic that Ice-T was on playing a pimp. Yet two years later he's on Law & Order: SVU...

It's not unusual at all for Dick Wolf. I've seen the same performers playing a number of roles, some of them on opposite sides of the law. For example, Christine Baranski played both a defense attorney and a mafia princess--all in one season. Jerry Orbach guest-starred as defense attorney Frank Lehrer two seasons before he landed the plum role of Detective Lennie Briscoe. Det. Briscoe appeared on several Law & Order spin-offs, too.

Landing a role in a Dick Wolf production is practically job insurance!

Close, DWRead. Jerry Orbach appeared as the defense attorney Frank Lehrman the year before appearing as Briscoe, not two years before.

Actor J.K. Simmons, now playing Dr. Emil Skoda in Law and Order & Law and Order Special Victims Unit, played former intelligence agent turned bad Col. Alexander Nathaniel Rauschbad in a L&O cross over with Homicide.

Jerry Orbach, who joined the cast as Detective Briscoe in season 3, appeared in an earlier episode as a lawyer named Frank Lehrman. Many guest stars have appeared more than once as different characters, such as Lauren Ambrose who has appeared as three different characters.

S. Epatha Merkerson, who later joined the regular cast as Lt. Van Buren, first appeared as Denise Winters in a guest-starring role in the episode "Mushrooms." Her character's son was murdered.

Two years before joining the cast as a series regular, Diane Neal appeared in an episode playing a woman accused of raping a male stripper.

I like Solitaire ok... that is, unless I got someone to play with.

Courtny B. Vance was in an episode of L&O playing a stock broker charged with murdering his boss before getting the role of ADA Carver.

Well, in the series, he does mention a couple of times that he used to be undercover for the narcs. They probably use the excuse that he was undercover in the movie and had to pretend to be dead so they ppl didn't find out he was a cop and was still alive. They probably just haven't mentioned this is the series.

Ice T's character in 'Exiled' was murdered, so there is no possible way that Orefin Tutuola was Kingston.

They never make any effort to explain why the same actors return in different rules. It's like it never happened.

Another interesting thing: if you watch anough of the reruns it's like a list of "before they were stars."

reply

Well, why should they mention it? I mean it's not like it happens solely in the Law & Order universe. There are many shows that recast actors in different roles, including but not limited to, The Cosby Show, M*A*S*H, Diff'rent Strokes, Knight Rider, and MacGyver.

J.K. Simmons also appeared on one episode in a very small role, monitoring a phone tap (from a van) during a stakeout. Or something like that, I can't really remember. I do remember seeing him though.

Bebe Neuwirth turned up as a suspect in either SVU or CI before playing the lead lawyer in the short-lived Law & Order: Trial by Jury.

it was in SVU, I believe...

Many of the actors on the Law & Order Franchises were on the HBO series OZ.

I'm looking for a copy of Exiled. If anyone has one to sell, please contact me. thanks. [email protected]

Ned Eisenberg played a defense attorney in it named Jerry Kleinert. I think the real irony there is that he ended up playing at least another defense attorney in SVU and I think a different one in the original.

"It is currently quite common to hear the word ironic used as a synonym for incongruous in situations where there is no'double audience', and no contradiction between the ostensible and true meaning of the words."

Another instance of this is when S. Epatha Merkerson (Lt. Van Buren) played the mother of a murdered child (character name Denise Winters) in season 1, episode 17, called "Mushrooms".

I have tried to read all the posts here, but there are too many, so sorry if this had been post before.

I like to note that Milena Govich how had starring as Detective Nina Cassady in Season 17, previously had a guest role in one Episode of "Law and Order".

It was only one Episode and her screen Time was not much, it was a small role. Almost like a cameo. She playe someone called Geneva how works in a bar, in the Episode called Flaw. So before she became the important Starring Part as Detective Nina Cassady she had guest starred in the Second Episode of Season 16 one season before she was hired to play Nina Cassady.

I peronaly like (the Episode) Flaw because this was an Crossover Episode between "Law and Order" and "Law and Order: SVU". Oliva Benson (Mariska Hairgitay) and Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice-T) makes (notbale) guest starring Part in this Episode. Fin less then Oliva. She is more involved in the Case as Fin does. (Because it gets personaly) Estella Warren also plays here role "April Troost" from "SUV". "Lorraine Dillon" played by Lynda Carter also guest stars in this Episode.

In SVU Episode "Design" Oliva first thinks April Troost is a Victim but it turns out she isn't. So Oliva and Co. tries to "catch" her but they (the Police) have to let her go. Now in LAO (The Orignal) Episode "Flaw" a Man got killed only short bevore he is calling Olive Benson. Joe Fontana and Ed Green ask if Oliva knows this Dead Man, but she denies. She don't know him and also not recognize her face. While the investigate this case they got to do with April Troos how "return" (or never was away). This Time Oliva won't let April and her Mother go. But they need Evicende to prove, that they two are guilty this time!! Will Oliva Benson, Ed Green and Joe Fontana find what they need? Watch the Episode for answers if its broadcast again. A good Episode beacause of the Crossover and the first Screen Appearence of Milena Govich in the LAO Universe. (But it would be helpfull to watch the LAO: SVU Episode "Design" before.)

Yes this "Article" has not so much to do with Ice-T and his appearence on the Movie Exiled. But I want to add one more Person how has starred in the LAO Univers before getting a big role or before hired as a guest Star again. However Milenas Screen Time appearence wasn't that long but I recognize her.

Hope I could help!

Let's not forget Annie Parisse as a stripper in S12E22, "Attorney Client", prior to joining the cast as ADA Alex Borgia.
