Help me figure this one out...

I LOVED this movie but the whole kidnapping thing has got me confused. Was the kidnapping a set-up by Marvin to get Kaspar and the Russians off his tail? Can someone please explain the kidnapping plan???

yes, marvin knew kaspar was a traitor. so he faked his death.

Thanks! I assume that even though Marvin's death was faked, the other two were not??

Correct. That's why Jimmy (Matt Dillon) refuses to go with Marvin in the end, telling him he's gone too far this time. He's referring to the actual murders of the drug addicts to make the scheme look real.

I thought he was just fed up in general with Marvin. Didn't realize it was specifically those two douch*bags that were killed that made him not want to go along with the plan.

Personally I thought those guys deserved to die.One of them stole Dillon's passport and the other one tried to steal an artifact from the temple -- they weren't on too many people's best friend's list. Why would Dillon care if these guys were killed? Maybe the writers should have made it a couple of more innocent types who Marvin assumed were expendable...

You can be scum and still not deserve to die. Simple truth that Dillon's character understood...and wisely I might add.

I thought the big question would be what gets the Russians off Jimmy's trail...after Kasper saps him near the drop zone and returns to find his fiance dead, you see him in the bar, grieving..but he has not told the Russians Jimmy is still out there...........then they come and shoot Kasper. The money and Jimmy are still gone at this time, and why would the Russians just stop there? If I were Jimmy, I would be shuffling off to Buffalo with Sugar Nipples....not dallying around the temple with this Samsonite....acting like staying 'in country'

It's more than likely that Casper already told the Russians about the kidnap video and the cut off foot prior to going with Jimmy.

It's also quite probable that upon his return Casper told people that Jimmy was executed by the same people who had Marvin (and adding he can also be presumed dead), maybe to the Frenchie bar owner.

Word got around and the Russians said "F it" and shot Casper.

"I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing."
