yeah really! i watched movie this afternoon and I enjoyed in everything, i mean, the story is great, the scenes, folks, photography...and kinda different
i tottally like it!
i really don't get it how it ended up with mark 5.6???
I know, its unbelieveable. Its a very slow, subtle film, beautifully made. Matt Dillon and Natascha Mcelhone give great performances. It truly is a beautiful film, its really too bad its so unknown, I'm definately hounding all my friends to see this one. Its such a great story, like reading a good book. It should be somewhere around an 8, not 5.6. Jeeze, even Ebert liked it...
shareTruly underrated. I loved this movie not realizing that Matt Dillon directed this movie. great work. i wished he would direct another.
shareI couldn't agree more. This movie illustrates perfectly that Americans(and Westerners in general) are like fish out of water once they even step 1 foot in the 3rd world. I found Cambodia both beautiful and fascinating. Realizing that he has to deal with slumlords and native gangs didn't seem to cross the protagonist's mind as he entered the country -- a mistake he surely would come to regret.
Overall the movie was good and it showed perfectly how you always have to watch your back when outside of your native country.
Amazing movie, great plot. I agree totally, it is horribly underrated!

Worth watching for it's unique and somewhat gutsy atmospherics and fast-paced action...and Natasha McElhone is pretty hot too
share^ Indeed. Not perfect, but this film was quite good and definitely deserves better than 5.8. The quickie durian scene was a nice touch ;)

looks like i am the only one here who couldn't agree LESS
it was just too convoluted and meandering for me
also, way too many named characters OFF SCREEN with whom i could not identify. it's hard to get invested in a person you haven't seen (with rare exceptions)
but the way names were tossed about in this one, as if the viewer should keep a running track of who's who, nah i don't think that's good writing
gerard depardeu was incredible though. loved his scenes. he is always good
(lol a fist fight while holding an infant. so crazy!!! the man has sand)
