Did Cage and Marty get on?

Just wondering.......surprised they havent worked together again if they did. Marty could help save Cages floundering career!

Cage often overracts, and I don't care to see him in another Scorsese movie. I liked Bringing Out the Dead a lot, but I thought Scorsese should have used somebody different in the lead. Schrader himself said he didn't care for him either.

Schrader is a gigantic fan of Cage, like almost every filmmaker.

Schrader's first choice in the role of Frank was Edward Norton.

(assuming the IMDB Trivia section blurb is legit)

I appreciate casting where an actor who might not be the most talented in the world is given a role that fits his (limited) talents. Tom Cruse in The Color of Money, or Jerry Lewis in The King of Comedy are other examples.

Seriously?

Cruise has one of the most widespread filmographies out of anyone.

^^This. I'd love to see Cruise or Cage in another Scorese film. The cast was great too, so many good actors involved. And I thought Cage did pretty well, underrated performance from him.

I think the "Cruise Can't Act" ship has sailed and is gone for good. His range is incredible. He made gems with a Wide Range of Directors. Even films like Tropic Thunder, he was unbelievably funny. Oh, and just some random directors feel the same... You know... Kubrick, Spielberg, Scorsese, Tony Scott, PT Anderson and a slew of others. He's looked at more favorably nowadays it seems. His filmography is nuts. Gem after gem, all huge Box Office numbers and alot of Great Rated Films by Critics and Audiences alike. He did what, like 6-$100+mil grosses twice?? Insane

Yup, while I don't care for Cruise's public persona - not that I give it much thought - the guy has put together one of the best and most varied filmographies any actor could hope for. The guy can act.

And he's been a genuinely bankable movie star for over 30 years now. Probably only Clint Eastwood can boast similar longevity at the top.

Yea, it doesn't happen often. Sam Jack is the most profitable actor I believe of all-time and he's as great as they get... But he also takes every role he's offered because he just loves to act and stay busy. For every Pulp Fiction or Unbreakable etc, there's 10 Snakes On A Plane lol. I don't mean that in a bad way, he's one of my favorite actors. Christopher Walken is the same way, albeit, not as big of a Box Office guy, but he takes every role he can...

With Cruise, he's set the Blueprint for guys like DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. Spielberg/Cruise, Scorsese/Leo, Nolan/Hardy(To a lesser extent) but basically they work with the best. All different methods of acting of course buy they don't really do much crap. Its One Great Director after another. Best position to succeed, critically AND commercially. I'm not saying X is a better actor than Y or Z, just using a couple examples. Cruise is a Spectacle off the screen as well but his talent is there. I even look back to Risky Business and The Color of Money... While it may have been his "Heart-throb" era, those films are great and he carries his weight. Newman and Scorsese didn't hurt either but he wasn't a slack. And then his run with Spielberg is just incredible IMO, one quality film after another. Idk how anyone can overlook his body of work at this point. Magnolia and Eyes Wide Shut are back to back marvels as well.

Cruise not talented? go see magnolia, collateral and born on the 4th of july, oh and rain man you dumb fk!

Cage is without a doubt one of the most talented actors of his generation, and I would argue the most talented.

There are actors Cruise's age who are just as talented, but none who are more charismatic. Or even as charismatic. The guy is a true movie star.

reply

Absolutely. Obviously tons of Actors are extremely talented and for many it's unfortunate that they never reach that next level of success... However, Cruise is just a Special Talent. Sure he's a Weirdo (Most Actors are to some extent) but you can't take your eyes off him when he's on screen. Charismatic in every sense of the word.

Marty is one of the easiest guys to get along with. I've never heard him make a bad comment about Nicolas.

I read that Cage might be be in Scorsese’s next film Killers of the Flower Moon with De Niro and DiCaprio.
