The raft they were on...

I'm assuming it was the raft the four murder young people had made. Could it really have worked for possibly as many as 20 or so people? Also, if you ever checked out the alternate ending to the movie, they were rescued by a ferry boat while adrift on that raft. I wonder what they all would have explained as to how they got there?
