I think Alex Garland should give his book another go as a film

I admire Danny Boyle's film and Leo is good although miscast in this. But seen as the author of the book is now a pretty damn good director himself, I think he could give this book a more deserving film adaption.

The character Leo play's Richard in the book is a lot more of loser and doesn't get with French girl at all, also he's English. The book has a great character of a ex Vietnam vet who was totally cut from the film. It's a lot weirder and strange and violent too. I do think this book can make a awesome film, I just think with Boyle's version with Leo coming off Titanic and studio's been involved it clear to see it got gutted. Shame really.

I agree. I really enjoyed the movie but the book is on a whole other level. Jed was the best character in my opinion and as you mentioned, he's not in the movie.

I would love to see Garland's cinematic take of his own literary work.

Totes agree. It’s been 20 years, I think Garland could both honour his book more closely and update things to feature modern technology (and its absence on the beach)
