Richard was not a nice person

He pretty much assisted in the killings of the 4 from the mainland. Plus he kills Cristo at the end, euthanizing him.

He also steals Francois from her boyfriend, then cheats on her with Sal and cheats with Sal on her boyfriend.

Then he goes home and enjoys himself at an internet cafe apparently with no guilt.

Yes he representing the up and coming generation of selfish louts devoid of morals and integrity which is now pervasive through out society. He was at the age of transition, it was the age of transition from the old era to the new one.

They were all guilty of being really irritating selfabsorbed chararcters.... Movie is hard to watch for this reason... Most Tourists have their own agenda... But when we are young and obnoxious ...ugh ....

Exactly. I have it DVRed and finished a re-watch this morn. But as I was watching it reminded me of the land I was forced to move off of in order for these same people to lease it. I'm expecting a killing any moment now.

He's a typical conservative finding himself in a socialist-utopia-like free environment to exploit in order to destroy.

This is why daffy gave him the map thinking it was time to end it. He knew Richard was the type to destroy it. It's like all those conservatives going on welfare during and after the recession and proudly announcing on message boards across the internet that they wish to exploit it, like those criminal types that commit crimes when there are no laws or police around to stop them (they are the REASON we have to have things like traffic laws because they are so immoral - they always have to abuse freedom in order to destroy it), like Ayn Rand writing Atlas Shrugged then bankrupt living her life out on Social Security, the banks collecting bailouts from President Bush they all wanted to exploit that which they continually bashed because they are both stupid and evil.

☝🏻 Someone’s pissed that the film showed up a bunch of young Communists for being the pack of myopic utopian psychos they always turn out to be once they get a commune up and running.

reply

Exactly!! Haha!

Perfect!

Are you brain damaged?

reply

Yes, his brain has been damaged by the cult of Socialism.

I agree he euthanised Christo but at the same time he could have told Francoise that Sal forced him to have sex with her. Having said that, it could all have been avoided if he did not copy the map for those people and I am sure he feels guilt for most of his actions but he should have had some passion for trying to get Francoise back as his girlfriend although I think he felt Etienne was the right person for her (again) because she was with him all along

I haven't seen this movie in ages, but from what I remember none of these people were nice.
