I am also anxious to purchase any media format of this series. I re-watched my (incomplete) copy of this series following reading the book this week and thought it would be great to see the complete episodes.

I recorded the original when aired on Betamax video tape and copied them onto vhs tape some time ago but some of the first episode was lost at the start, due to a damaged Betamax tape. I have tried to locate anyone who may have the series but suspect it has never been released on DVD or VHS tape.

Has anyone anymore help.

Best regards,

Bob.

Hi there,

I'm amazed that there's still such an interest in this programme, I was the re-recording sound mixer all those years back of the series and really enjoyed working on the film. I too have been looking for a copy of it but haven't been able to find it. If I do I'll let you all know about it.

Best wishes,
Aad Wirtz

Well I just think John Guilged really made the film. What a thrill to be able to work with him. I'm currently reading the book and all I can think about is Sir John saying these classic lines! Brill film, would love to be able to watch it again. Hardly likely in Ohio, USA but I have my British family keeping an eye open for a re-run. Keep me posted!

Going around in circles.
Rather than asking the question of others who ask the same question, we should be barraging the producers to make it available on VHS and/or DVD through broad distribution in the States.
I'm going to research the makers of the film and then post the appropriate name and address.

I do have a complete copy of the series, taped off PBS, including some of the Masterpiece Theatre intros. Unfortunately, it is showing its age, which is why I checked the forum, hoping to find some news about a DVD release. I guess we can continue to hope.

While we're on the subject of older mini series availablity - has "Mother Love" starring Diana Rigg ever been released on VHS or DVD? I also have a VHS copy of this terrific program that is getting a bit worn out.

Hello.

Maybe it's not nessessary any more - but Summer's lease" can be bought at www:dvdcity.dk
It has subtitles in English, region 2, run time 220 min.
price 180 Danish cronen, which would be about GBP 20.

It's in the works! It should be available on DVD as a Spring/Summer release this year (no date has been set as of yet, though, so that could move up or back depending on circumstances). Keep an eye out!

“Summer's Lease” will be coming out on DVD from Acorn Media on 6/28/05. The SRP (Suggested Retail Price) will be $39.99 for a 2 DVD box set. The DVD special features will include bios of John Mortimer and John Gielgud, and cast filmographies. It will be available at most on-line DVD retailers as well as the traditional DVD retailers. The title will be available in both the U.S. and Canada, with the Canadian SRP being slightly higher.

You have absolutely made my day! I have been searching for a recording of this programme for about 10 years. I saw the series when it was first aired in Australia in 1989 and my mum and I followed the Piero della Francesca trail in Tuscany and Le Marche, primarily inspired by "Summer's Lease", in 1998. Unfortunately she died in 2003, before we were able to obtain a copy of the series to watch it again. I'll be counting down the days until 28 June! Thank you so much!

We share your love of this wonderful series. However Acorn advise that they only supply people in US and Canada with their products. How are we poor folk in Oz going to secure a copy? Any suggestions?

Hi, I see the problem for those of us who live outside Canada & the US. I emailed AcornMedia on Wednesday (20/4/05) and asked them how we can solve the problem. No response as yet, but as soon as I get one I will post details on IMDB. Meanwhile, I am going to email Amazon.com right now to ask them to stock the product. Will let you know either way. I have no doubt that we will ultimately prevail! (although we may need to have multiregion DVD players at our disposal)

reply

Hooray!
"Summer's Lease" DVD is available now for pre-order at Amazon.com, where it is scheduled to become available on 28 June. Amazon DO ship to Australia. N.B. The disks will be US format, so will only play on multiregion players in Australia (I've never had any difficulties with US tapes on my Panasonic machine). The wait is (almost) over!

reply

It's out! It's available now! www.acornonline.com has the 2-DVD set for $39.99 as of 4/9/05 - THE WAIT IS OVER!!!!!!

Fantastic news.

We were in Italy in January and I thought of the film so many times while viewing the paintings.

Wow!
