Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley should have played her not some American would could not get the accent. Anyway she looks a bit like her.

reply

I agree! =o)

reply

I don't think Keira looks like Audrey.

reply

But at the time of the filming, wasn't Keira Knightley only 14 or 15 years old? That would have been a little silly.

reply

I am only thinking of the posibility of it Jennifer Love Hewitt played the part with a bad accent and a few other things like they should have used a British actress that would have had a accent like Keira Knightley that would have spiced up the role better.

reply

Why does everyone keep thinking Audrey Hepburn had a british accent? Her mother was dutch, her father was English, she was born in Belgium, spent part of her life in Holland, a lot of her life in Switzerland and as a result had a very unique accent which would be very hard for any actress to achieve. I thought JLH was terrible in the role but her accent was just a tiny part and a British actress would not necessarily have done any better.

reply

Just because an actress is an American doesn't mean she can't handle it. Meryl Streep is an American, but is there an accent she CAN'T do? And yes, though Audrey was a British citizen, her accent was not purely British.

reply

Her accent was more British than American, certainly. The main thing is that it was melodic, which I can imagine is hard to act out.

reply

Audrey's accent wasn't American at all, although it sounded like it sometimes. But despite being a British citizen, she does not have an authentically British accent, which appears to be a bone of contention with those who argue for Julie Andrews over her in My Fair Lady.

reply

What does melodic have to do with her accent? In Pygmalion (AKA My Fair Lady), she had a Cockney accent, which is far from being melodious- just ask Henry Higgins!

Any decent voice coach can help one master any accent, unless you're the actress in this movie.

reply

Cockney is a dialect, usually spoken by the working-class people on the poor side of London (Eliza Doolittle)

reply

Uhm,first, people should get informed,Audrey had british heritage, but she was belgian,so the accent part had to be trained, because she had the mix of british and belgian accent, and Keira Knightley looks a bit like her,but her face is too long and her traces are too rough.I mean,i think she is beautiful, but Audrey had very delicate traces, and Keira's are not that much.Natalie should portray her, because she has a smaller face than Keira and more acting abilities,at least in my opinion.Winnona Ryder is a very good choice too,but i don't believe there is anyone these days who could portray Hepburn both in looks and acting.Keira has the same body shape, but i am not sure she could get it right.

reply

Let's just face it, actresses of Audrey Hepburn's caliber simply don't exist anymore. That's why it's nearly impossible for someone to accurately portray her in a movie.

Though I agree there is a small similarity in the shape of their eyebrows but, I have to agree with tres_bonne, their facial bone structure is way too different. I believe KK would probably do Audrey justice but coulda, woulda, shoulda....we'll just have to wait and see if anything happens.

reply

Hah, just because they look abit like Ms. Hepburn doesn't mean they can act as her. I don't see any talent in Natalie Portman (star war, *shudder*). As for Keira, hmm, didn't see much there either....

reply

Audrey's accent was mixed. It wasn't really British.

Well...Keira would have trouble with the accent as well...since Audrey's wasn't British. It was a blend of all the different places she grew up in and languages she knew. Unique. Though I do agree a little about Keira Knightley, since she has that same mix of feminity and tomboyish-ness that Audrey had, though she's not near as graceful as Audrey.

Chuck Norris wants to be Bruce Campbell when he grows up.

Keira Knightly looks about as much like Audry Hepburn as Marilyn Monroe looked like Barbra Streisand.

There has been much disagreement over who should have played Audrey Hepburn. The three most common choices being Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightly, and Winona Ryder. I'll address all three as they are bound to pop up on yet another message board.

Portman at the time was involved in "Where the Heart Is" so she could not have done the Audrey Hepburn Story even if she wanted to.

Other people bring up Kiera Knightly, as well as Winona Ryder. Knightly would have been just 15 in 2000 when the film was released, and therefore would not have been suitable for the role. Ryder was also involved in three separate projects in the year 2000 and would have been left unable to play the role.

I don't think Kiera Knightly (looking at her now, not in 2000) resembles Hepburn all that much. If this is about accent, it's just a way of speech, you can teach yourself an accent. Now, I do think Ryder resembles Hepburn a great deal more than Jennifer Love Hewett. And in a perfect world I would have chosen her to portray the role. But then again in a more perfect world I would want Audrey Hepburn, God rest her soul, to portray Audrey Hepburn. However, at the time, the best actress available was chosen for the part of Audrey Hepburn.

This entire thread isn't really about how great Kiera Knightly would have been, or how terrible Jennifer Love Hewett was (I personally think she wasn't all that bad, not great, but not bad) it's about how people see Audrey Hepburn and have a preconceived notion and love of her. No matter who would have played Hepburn, people would have been let down. There is no Audrey Hepburn but the Audrey Hepburn, no one can imitate her, no one can replicate her, and no one can come close to bringing her film presence back to life.

All they can do is try. And Jennifer put forth a valiant effort.

Y'all need to stop hating.

reply

The actress in this movie cast HERSELF.

It just goes to show what little she knew about Audrey Hepburn -the greatest actresses of all time.

Career suicide if you ask me.

Plenty of other stars have been portrayed, by other actors, but I agree NO ONE can play Audrey...that's why I think the TV actress in this movie was clueless.
