I've been reading reviews on the net and there seems to be different versions (99 min and 103 min), and also, some versions are dubbed in English only with added 'rap' songs over the original scores in the movie.
I would like to buy the original version, with cantonese audio and english subtitles - is it Hitman, Contract Killer or King of Assassins?
I'd suggest getting "Hitman" I picked this movie up on an impulse buy back in 1999 and it's been one of my favorites. The version I have is subtitled, no rap songs or American dubs.
The English dub is horrible and despite most of the rap songs being done by Stone Throw which is a good label, most of it sounds dated and poorly produced. I'd recommend any other version than "The Contract Killer".
That one certainly isn't the "orginial version". It's a re-mastered version by Hong Kong Legends.
This is the best version you can get though. It has the original Cantonese audio as well as English dubbed! It’s a dual layer DVD for better quality. (You can never go wrong with any Hong Kong Legends DVDs)

Except for the cock-up they made with the subs! In the HKL release, the subs are in fact 'dub-titles', where they follow the English dub of the film. This includes the stupid names they gave to the main characters- Jet Li's character should be called Fu, but in the HKL release he is called Fred!!! As for the other guy, he is called Norman instead of Ngok Lo. Ridiculous! I have had to edit the subs myself using freeware, and re-author the dvd to my tastes (ie with the proper names re-instated). This is of course, for my own personal use I'm afraid. So, my version looks to be the best available atm. Pity I can't sell it!
I have Contract Killer. I thought Id be able to turn off the dubbing and hear it in chinese bt there was no option for that. And the rap music was terrible. The title song was decent bt the rest sucked. Id rather hear a real score. And how much difference could two minutes make?
