Did anyone notice…

… the similarities between this film and Miike Takashi’s ‘Ichi The Killer’??

Both have shootings in the knee area and have people who do acts of violence before crying over it (literally) like a baby. It’s interesting to note that Tsukamoto acted in both of these films too. I think Miike knowingly made this reference to ‘Bullet Ballet’. It’s very obvious (to me anyway) that there is something going on here.

Dave!

Yes, i noticed that a little bit too. I think Miike does that a lot, he takes something and completley turns it on it's head. I remember reading that 'Dead Or Alive' started out as this standard Yakuza film and Miike just turned it into this crazed, surreal, ultra violent rollercoaster ride. That film is a kick in the nads. As is Bullet Ballet.

hello there! Yeah, dead or alive is cool, just watched Haze by Shinya the other day, was off its head! I liked it but i don't know why... i think i just loved how much love had been put into it... it's great with Shinya because he handles most things, works in a really small group and works so independantly that you sort of know everthing has been taken into consideration and it comes across that way, you can think 'this is boring' or whatever but in the end it's so unbelievably the directors intention...
