What does everybody think?

I have not yet seen this film, though I hope to do so very soon. Until then, I am curious as to what everybody else thinks of the film.

I like it very much, great imagery. I could go on, but it is worth seeing, and that is really all you need to know.

I just watched it. I think it is probably my second favorite Tsukamoto film, next to "A Snake of June." Of course, I wasn't a big "Tetsuo" fan, and I didn't care for "Tokyo Fist." But "Bullet Ballet" and "A Snake of June" are definitely good films worth watching. I gave them both eight out of ten stars.

hand-held when panning and running was compelling.
ending scene looks like 'Mauvais sang' to me.
the japaness nihilism in this movie dashed my ease completely.

I thought it was great. It didn't quite have the manic energy that i loved about Tokyo Fist, but it was ultimate a more mature, finely-crafted film. It was definitely more subdued than his earlier stuff, with a slower pace, and it was maybe even slightly more coherent (although that really isn't saying much by Tsukamoto's standards). It probably had the best cinematography of all his films.

Good call on Mauvais Sang, by the way. I can definitely see the similarity in the endings.

I really liked this movie, despite the fact that the NetFlix summary had nothing to do with the fact that this movie is about depressed, lonely people. It's mostly like an arthouse film, with great visuals. Rent it, but not worth buying.

A beautiful nihilisitc piece of cinema. Reeks of sadness and negative energy, shows a disenchanted youth and a disillusioned middle age bracket that is fighting to understand its place in the world after a horrendeous war. A must see for anyone who enjoy's the director's films or anyone who has a basic understanding of Nietzsche and Samuel Beckett. How do you react to a world that seems like a violent dream? How do you find fulfillment when your life is empty? That is what this beautiful film is about.

it almost feels like two different films merged at the middle. the earlier portion is very familiar, style and substance-wise to the director. however, after godo's little stint with revenge and obsession cools down..it kind of turns into a lethargic stretch where you're not quite sure what is going on until the conclusion occurs. overall, the film feels like a mixture of ASOJ and Tokyo Fist (with all the glimmering sexual tension, and the couple of scenes including boxing).

reply

i dont think i'd compare it too closely with ASOJ, either way i loved it.

We cant stop here, this is Bat Country!

I thought this movie was great. I didn't think it was as good as Tokyo Fist, or Tetsuo... But I mainly like Tetsuo for how insane it is... A Snake of June was great. This movie's defintly alot better then what I've heard about it. The middle makes perfect sense aslong as you hold out till the end.

i liked it but with only one watching im not sure i cought on to everything i was supposed to... but i loved tetsuo. but for asian action, i love the oldboy/smympathy trilogy, i know its a little lose minded to compare them and its very american of me to do so, but i just havent seen enough asian cinema for me to have more of a specific viewpoint and its easy to generalize asian cinema.

An absolouetly great film, Tsukamoto is one of my favorite, favorite, directors (and cinematographers (not a bad actor too) for that matter).

He's a genius.

Give it a bash!
