i have suffered a loss from this disease.....

Two years ago my bet friend died of cystic fibrosis. He made it longer than most people do, he died when he was almost 20 years old. He was the most amazing person i've ever met in my whole life. He touched many lives and had so many friends. He truely was incredible. He also never wanted anyone to know he was sick because he never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him or think differently of him. This year I am taking part in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations Great Strides Walk to raise money for research. I would love it if anyone could donate money. It doesn't have to be much. Just go to : http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/joannavalliant and donate to team silvio in my best friends memory. It would mean the world to me. Anyone else who has gone through a loss because of this disease knows how dibilitating it can be. I know I never want anyone else to feel the loss I felt when Silvio died. That's why I am doing this. So they can find a cure.

I hate to be a nitpicker, but you know the average CF lifespan is 32 now? 20 is sadly, still pretty young.

ok, the age really wasn't the point of my statement......

reply

I know that. Trust me, I wasn't knocking it. I have CF myself. Was just correcting the factual error.

Do you really?

How old are you?

WOuld you be interested in donating to raise money for research?

reply

Yes I do. I'm 22. I was dx at two days old from meconium ileus. And I actually do donate when I can afford it. My boyfriend's father is doing the Seacoast Safari for CF (150-mile bike ride) in August, and I write him a check for what I can afford when he does.

yeah ive heard of it! thats great! my friend was diagnosed when he was just a few days old as well. no one else in his family has the disease.

Same here, I'm the lone ranger. Or something. Haha. My sister doesn't even carry it. We got either extreme in the genetic lottery.

yeah its crazy how random these things can work out.

if born today its about 30-40

The 30-40, I might add, is just a prediction, because they can't really tell how long anyone will live. And it's not an average or scientifically-acquired number. The CFF states that only 41% of CFers alive are over 18. So it's not like the average is currently 35. Yes, this also means that many CFers are just children and haven't gotten that far yet, but it also means that we're not all living as long as they'd like to hope.
