Pretty Woman was a great movie, but I really liked Runaway Bride. In fact, I think it was even better than Pretty Woman. It was entertaining and funny, and at the end you felt good about having gone to see it. It wasn't a meaningless movie like some of the stuff that's out today.

You know I really liked Pretty Woman. I mean sure it wasn't a very believeable story and w/e but not too manny romantic comedies are so you can't take them seriously. What's great about Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride is the chemistry that exists between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. I'd say Pretty Woman was the better movie but this one was good too.

I don't know, I think that I kind of like Runaway Bride better then Pretty Woman. They are really close though.

I agree. I like RB better than PW - and I have figured it out that the ending to RB is sweeter and more believable. I actually felt let down by the dialogue at the end of PW. The 'he rescues her' thing was kind of pithy and easy and I didn't feel the chemistry between Gere and Roberts as much as when they kissed at the end of RB. But that's just me.

I agree. I was a bit disappointed.

Did anyone else notice the reference to Pretty Woman? It was in the beauty shop, right before they dye his hair all crazy. He asks about her wedding dress for her upcoming nuptuals and she says she was thinkig of wearing a red dress but she decided it wasn't her color. And he says that he thinks she would look great in red. Remember her famous red dress in the movie, Pretty Woman?

I didnt think Pretty Woman was that good in the first place and I also thought that Runaway Bride was crap.Gere and Roberts are lacking chemistry and it was just too predictable.

That's not the only reference to Pretty Woman. You could build a whole drinking game out of it.

There are at least 5 actors from Pretty Woman in this movie
-Richard Gere (Ike Graham/Edward Lewis)
-Julia Roberts (Maggie Carpenter/Vivian Ward)
-Hector Elizando (Fisher/Barney Thomas)
-Patrick Richwood (TV Host/Dennis the night elevator operator)
-Larry Miller (Larry the NYC bartender/Mr. Hollister)

Other references
- The main characters haggling over money.
- When eating crabs, Ike's hammer goes flying. In Pretty Woman, when eating escargot, Vivian's escargot goes flying.
- Julia's characters are both treated badly by store clerks when trying to buy a dress. And in both movies, Richard's character helps her get better treatment when shopping.
- His balcony is a big setting in both movies.
- Richard's characters are both car-ignorant, and Julia's are car-savvy.

That's all I can think of right now...

Just thought of another one- Both of Richard Gere's characters play the piano.

reply

That's because he plays the piano in real life.

I think Runaway Bride is excellent. And it could be a sequel to Pretty Woman since Julia Roberts starred in both movies with Richard Gere, couldn't it?

reply

Agree. i just re-watched it as it came on telly yesterday and it was even worse than i remembered it being, Pretty Woman is a fantastic film by comparison with this one.
