Drum solo

Is his drum solo apart of this performance or is it found elsewhere?

reply

It is apart of this performance it just isn't always included.

It depends on which version of the compilation you're seeing. The drum solo bit is on the American version of the VHS tape, and was on the HBO special years ago, but not the European DVD. (I suspect because he lampoons "The Star-Spangled Banner" Jimi Hendrix-style, which may or may not be familiar to European audiences.) Several of the other skits, as has been mentioned elsewhere on this board, are considerably changed. A rather remarkable feat, to get the comic timing right in both, I'd say.

No disrespect intended, but that assumption is ridiculous. Although I can only speak for the danish people, I think it's safe to say that the main part of the audience in Europe is familiar with Jimmy Hendrix' version of The Star-Spangled Banner. At least, in Denmark, everyone knows that performance.

It puzzles me why they didn't include that skit in the european version of the DVD. I just saw it on Youtube, and frankly I don't see any reason at all, as to why they would leave it out. Except for the fact that, in my opinion, it's nowhere near the quality displayed in the bulk of the show.

Does any one know this french canadian comedian Michel Courtemanche? At about the same time that R.A.'s ''drum solo'' number was presented, this dude did a very similar drummer performance, it was around 1992 or 1994. I was just curious to see who copied who, since both of them were part of the just for laughs festival at that same period. both are really funny and resembling. you can see the vid on you tube

reply

Atkinson was doing his drum bit in the 80's, so Michel Courtemanche copied him, some parts verbatim.
