Renford Rejects

Whilst waiting for Scrubs to come one last week, I decided to flick over and watch something for half an hour to pass the time, when I came across Renford Rejects on Nick.

Now, back in 1998, when I was only 9, Renford Rejects was my favourite show, and I would come home from school eager to watch this during the spring, as it had an amazing appeal to me. This was partly due to the setting, which was just a typical English town, the premise; a bunch of slightly challenged footballers trying to make their way in the league, but most significantly, the eccentric characters, such as the talkative Jason, the terrible, poetry loving Ben Philips, super-rich Ronny Supra, posh boy Stuart Jackson, "Italian" Bruno di Gradi, and of course the tom boyish Robin Walker. After watching the first series religioulsy, after Walker AKA Holly Davidosn left, I void had been left and only watched selected episodes from the next three series.

However, as I sat down to watch this last week, despite the scripting flaws and OTT character behaviour apparent, the memories came flooding back to me, and I thought to myself, "this was a really decent program." While it had its problems, it was original and innovative, as It was one of the first teen shows I remember based around football, obvioulsy produced to cash in on the new footballing obsession in this country after Euro 1996.

So I was wondering, did any of you lot ever watch this program back in the day? And why did this show not get a DVD release?

Considering it will be the ten year anniversairy in 2 years, I was hoping they'd release a DVD compilation. I would be nice for the producers to make a one-off show with the original cast, although this would be highly unlikely, as the likes of Robin Walker (Holly Davidson) and Stuart Jackson "Matt Leitch" are starring in big movies this year, whilst others such as Ben Philips (Charlie Rolland) and Bruno (Peter Parris) have drifted into absolute obscurity. It did only last a few seasons, however I feel it couldn't have gone further, as the cast were outgrowing the roles, i.e Bruno was 23 when he started production, playing a high school pupil, and the originals were slowly leaving the cast, however I hate the way it ended, as there was no real conclusion. It seems they were going to do more shows after the last episode, but sadly it was the end.
