It's a flawed movie. I didn't like the score at all, I thought the music made it feel like a sitcom on UPN. There was some very good acting here and there. Paul Winfield, Tzi Ma, Lauren Tom stood out the most to me. I wish they could've gotten better extras. Like in that scene at the airport where in the background you can see a female airport employee holding up what appears to be a dildo and an old man is unnaturally shrugging his shoulders. That's such an odd moment. Watch the extras and see how bad some of them are. The fight sequence between Dwayne's mothers is very odd. It feels so silly and over-the-top. Like how Samantha swings at Dwayne but hits Mike and he basically gets knocked out and sees birdies flying around (exaggeration). It was like poorly done slapstick.

The Mike/Samantha storyline felt very unresolved to me. Like are they going to stay together and be in denial? What is their relationship going to be like with Dwayne? It felt like it was lazily written. Like Chi Muoi Lo didn't quite know what to do with it so he just stopped it without resolving it.

I can respect that this is probably a very low-budget movie and Chi Muoi Lo didn't have a whole lot of experience directing films, but the whole thing feels like it falls short of its potential. It had so much potential, but he just didn't quite know how to make a good movie out of a good concept. I get the feeling it would've been better on stage.

It had so many good things going for it, I wanted this to be better.

I thought this movie was a really good effort for a first time director. I agree about the Mike/Samantha situation being unresolved but I really admire the fresh and original idea behind the script. I LOVED the relationship between the adoptive parents and their kids. Mary Alice was just wonderful in this film and my favorite scene in the film is the one where she and her daughter hug and finally connect with one another AS mother and daughter in the kitchen.

Tzi Ma was also a great addition to the film and I enjoyed the chemistry between Sanaa Lathan and Chi Mui Lo, also. Actually, I think ALL of the actors turned in first rate performances and that made the film more enjoyable and believable.

Chi has sort of fallen off the map since this film was released and that really saddens me. He has alot of talent and promise as an actor and filmmaker. Come back to us, Chi!
