LOL! No Mafia connection

The movie contends these were innocent Italians who were lynched, hard working businessmen and laborers. They were lynched because conniving WASP businessmen and politicians wanted them out of the way and stoked the fires of ethnic prejudice and fear to "right" the injustice of their acquittal.

Yet Macheca, portrayed simply as a businessman, is seen making payoffs to the Chief of Police (reasons for the payoffs are not given). The WASPS complain that Machea controls the docks (winning personality?). Also he has the influence to stop a fight between worker/members of two Families. One the Provenzanos who have a monopoly working the dock (how the movie does not explain), and the other, the Marchesis who have a similar unexplained monopoly as vegetable and fruit vendors. It does show the fruit and vegetable sellers paying up the line, sort of like Amway. The movie also shows that one of the young Provenzano toughs keeps a cache of sawed off shotguns and other weapons under the floorboards in his apartment.

Move along, no Mafia to see here.
