A love story with no kissing or sex

Aside from a peck on the cheek from Christina Ricci, neither her or Johnny Depp engage in any passionate manner of love. Maybe that was because she was too young for him being 18 or 19 for a 30-something guy, which they then disregarded in their following film together The Man Who Cried that didn't hesitate to show them being more openly passionate. Girls at 18 have made out with men older than them in films before and I don't see aside from that why they didn't want Ichabod and Katrina to engage in any real passionate expression of their love aside from hugs and pecks on the cheek, especially for Gothic horror where romance is usually supposed to be more passionate and sexy. I'm not saying more make-outs would have made the romance stronger, but it's just rare to have a love story in movies that doesn't express real physical engagements.

I feel like I remember an interview or something where Johnny Depp said there had been a love scene shot or something, so maybe something was cut. That could be my faulty memory though. But it is interesting that you say that. I'd never noticed that it was without even a kiss, but now that you mention it the closest thing is one moment when they almost kiss but don't.

It is unusual for a gothic horror story, let alone an R rated horror movie. I don't necessarily feel like it's missing anything, but that is interesting.

Their love is just starting to develop. Katrina was engaged at the beginning and the boyfriend dies horribly.

I think it made sense in a way. It's pretty neat.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Probably because Ricci was 16 or 17 when the movie was shot and Depp was like 35.

Besides the age difference when they were filming, there was the age difference when they *met*, when CR was a *little* kid and JD was in his twenties.
