Samuel L. Jackson is not cool

Samuel may be a good actor, but he sucks when he has to play 'the cool MF'

I saw the original Shaft, and that actor was cool. Clint Eastwood in 'Dirty Harry' is cool. Denzel Washington in 'Training Day' is cool. Ving Rhames is always cool.

my point: to play a cool character, it takes somebody whith natural appearance to play that part. No actors like Samuel L. Jackson or Laurence Fishburne, who just want to show the world what kind of badasses they are.

Samuel L. Jackson is better to play such roles as he did in 'Loaded Weapon' or 'Die hard with a vengeance'

so wait lemme get this straight...if you don't like him as a bad MF, you hated him as Jules in Pulp Fiction? :O His greatest role ever, a typecast he will continue to play but never ceases to be awesome. As for Laurence Fishburne, he should stick to the "magical negro" stereotype of the whole wise old black guy thing.

reply

maybe he was OK in pulp fiction

it's just that when i watched the 2 Shaft-movies, there was a big difference between the 2 actors. the actor of the original movie was much more convincing as cool guy than Jackson. as are the other actors i named before

reply

Samuel L. Jackson is the definition of Cool

reply

There is a difference between being cool and trying to be cool

reply

please we all know Samuel L.Jackson is somebody you don't want to *beep* with
especially when he puts on his "Serious Face" my god i hate that face

reply

Actors are acting; they are always "trying" to be something rather than being that thing.

reply

Can we please stop reffering to Richard Roundtree as "that actor"?

reply

I've always found that when Ving Rhames does cool he is cooler than Samuel Jackson doing cool. I don't know but Ving Rhames just seems more convincing and even more badass than anything I have seen from Samuel Jackson.

Ving Rhames = Cool Dude
Clint Eastwood = The Man

There's a difference between being a bad MF and being cool! The problem in this movie is that he isn't left much opportunity to be cool. Peoples makes fun of him and so does Wade, so Samuel ends up being spiteful and cynical; not a great basis to be cool.

In Pulp Fiction he was a bad MF and sort of cool. I still reckon Trevolta beat him there in the 'cool department' though!

Two words: Pulp Fiction

Now take my wallet out of the bag. It's the one that says bad ass mother *beep*

The Path of the Rightous man is beset on all sides by the inequalities of the selfish, and tyrany of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will, shepards the weak through the valley of darkness; for he is the true finder of the lost children and he is his brother's keeper. And i will strike down upon thee with great vengence and furious anger anybody who attempts to betray or poisan my brothers. And you will know my name is the lord when i lay my vengence upon thee.
I dont' know what it means, but i guess i just say it when i kill *beep*

Now how is that not cool.

How bout..
I've had enough of these mutha *beep* snakes on this mutha *beep* plane.
That's pretty damn cool if you ask me.

What?! Travolta was not anywhere near as cool as Jackson in Pulp Fiction!

The problem with this movie isn't whether Sam Jackson is cool or not, cause, in my opinion, he is. But he's only Jules cool... he's playing Jules when he should be playing Shaft. So many lines and deliveries in this movie are straight out of Pulp Fiction, and that's one major place where this film falters.

reply

Jackson is way cool with line delivery, and confidently portrays action heroes a lot (see: "Snakes on a MFin' Plane") but the fact is that John Shaft was originally conceived as a very sexy ladies man of a private eye and played by a very young and handsome actor, Richard Roundtree. Shaft '71 was almost the "black Cary Grant" in his portrayal by Roundtree.

I'm sure Samuel L. has sex appeal to certain fans out there, but his looks are not Roundtree-pretty.

The embarrassment in this film came with Jackson's gracious willingness to let Roundtree PLAY "the original Shaft" (Jackson is "the next generation" -- a nephew?) -- even a 60-something Richard Roundtree was more handsome and smooth than Jackson. I understand the producers finally elected to cut down on Roundtree's scenes because they distracted too much from Jackson.

Actually it is possible for an uncle to be close in age with the nephew. In fact, it's possible for the uncle to be younger than the nephew. Richard Roundtree is only 6 years older than Samuel L. Jackson. However, we don't know if the younger Shaft is the same age as Jackson. The main point is that Jackson was never really supposed to play Shaft the same way as Richard Roundtree.

reply

the thing about jackson is he can play anyrole.he goes to pulp fiction to shaft to star wars

reply

He's definitely cool.

reply

"Denzel Washington in 'Training Day' is cool."

No, he's not. Denzel is a crybaby who whines every change he gets about racism in Hollywood.
