List of all Winter War movies

I would ask anyone if they know of any and all Winter War movies. I'm sure you could find quite a few in Finland itself, but few make it to the outside world.

I know of only three.

TALVISOTA (1990)
CUCKOO
AMBUSH (1999) Technically it's about the Continuation War, 1941-44.

All of the above are excellent movies. My favorite is, TALVISOTA. I truly appreciate the subtitles and the Finnish dialgue. I do not want any such movies dubbed in English.

I know its not the best of sources but its something.

And you're right about Talvisota. Before then I hated the idea of watching a war movie because I thought it would be the American formula - whenever a 'bad guy' dies you hear victorious fanfares but when a 'good guy' dies a slow string orchestra plays - but the lines become blurred because Parika made you ask yourself questions like "is there a point to all of this?"

For the films, I can't recommend to you which ones to get or stay away from, I'm afraid. I've only ever seen Talvisota and Tuntematon Sotilas as far as Finnish war movies go. Its the best I can get from Australia.

Talvisota is the only Finnish made Winter war movie. Some films have segments taking place in the Winter war era, Täällä Pohjantähden alla is one.

Then there is of course Ski Patrol and some Soviet film I don't recall the name of. The Soviet one is mostly a pathetic Sovjetismo with some dude shooting at all general directions uttering Stalinist slogans.
