is this best finnish war movie ever made..?

No.

reply

agree, talvisota is.

reply

You are both wrong, 1955 version of the Unknown Soldier is the best.

reply

I agree with xaggurat,Unknown Soldier(Tuntematon Sotilas) first version is greatest Finnish war movie ever.

Talvisota was great also as well almost all war movies which were mentioned earlier on this thread.

"I don't see nightmares,I live them!"

reply

Talvisota is better... if only it was filmed on a winter with more snow...

reply

Finnish war films include:

Tuntematon sotilas (1955)
Tuntematon sotilas (1985)
Rukajärven tie
Päämaja
Framom främstä linjen
Sissit
Talvisota
Sven Tuuva (don't forget this depiction of 1809 war)

There are also some propaganda films like

Meidän poikamme merellä
Meidän poikamme ilmassa
Meidän poikamme maassa
Kenttäpostia

The best films are 'Talvisota' and the older 'Tuntematon sotilas'. 'Meidän poikamme merellä' is relatively good film because of Georg Malmstén.

And there is also a good, or rather goofy, war-parody by Velipuolikuu.

Another fine monument of illogic by an author called Puukkoo.
No suit - no tie - no service.

You forgot Kummeli Stories where Finland declares war on Luxemburg?

reply

Oh..

Thanks for mentioning it. The KUMMELI STORIES.

Play it again, Frank, I don't give a damn.

reply

There are two versions of Jääkärin morsian, from time before the WW2. 1931 and 1939 I think. There's not that much war though, I think couple of cavalry charges.

reply

Unknown soldier (Tuntematon sotilas) the 1955 version is the best finnish movie, and there is no doubt about it.

reply

I can find no DVD of that title on Amazon. Is it in print?

reply

www.filmifriikki.fi has it with english and swedish subtitles.

reply

I go for The unknown soldier (55)

reply

Well not the best finnish war movie, but I give 7.

reply

It's the second best, Unknown Soldier (2017) is the best.
