Why is this show not on DVD?

First of all, I thought this show started in like 1998.

Secondly, why is this show not in DVD? This show was the funniest thing going on in the late 90s. This guy is a living legend. He was the champ at going out in public and screweing with people and making me luagh...until that whole fame thing caught up with him.

reply

...damn. Now I see why it's not on DVD. Everybody has simply forgotten about the show. And it's pathetic that I'm the only one to respond to my own thread that I wrote like a week ago.

..maybe some day down the line some lost soul will stumbe onto this. I can only hope.

reply

I dunno. I've always loved this show and lately I've been frantically looking for episodes anywhere.

reply

Well, I guess it's just you and me, man. Apparently there's not much of a demand for it anymore. But, if this show comes out on DVD I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

reply

I loved the show, anybody remember the episode where he was going to reveal where Glen worked, but they just cut away to the credits?

UGH!! That still gets me angry everytime...

-------
"Why does Bush think Iraq has weapons of mass destruction?"
"Because he has the receipt."

reply

I don't remember that. But I do remember when he put up Glen's email address and phone number and Glen got 10,000 emails in a few days and had to change his phone number. I loved how he'd just dump on poor Glen.

reply

I can't believe how little there is written about this show on IMDB. I obviously thought it was much more popular than it actually was

reply

they released a box set of all his episodes he did in canada which has a bunch of stuff that was aired on the MTV show and tons more. the show is funny but i think a lot of the skits the did on the MTV show were a lot better. my personal favorite is glen and phil's arguement of who could win a fight a bear or a cougar. great *beep* i have no idea why MTV doesn't release the episodes on dvd. they would make a lot of money. way better then that *beep* show viva la bam. if anyone knows why mtv hasn't released the dvds please share.

reply

I'm just as confused as you guys...I thought this was way more popular than it appears to be. It seems like it's been completely forgotten! The message boards are dead, there are no DVD sets of the U.S. show in sight...WHAT HAPPENED???? WHERE ARE THE DVDS???

Tom actually said once on his website that he owns all of the MTV material and that it would really be up to him whether or not it gets released on DVD. But he's also said that it's really up to MTV. So, I'm not sure which is which, or if it's a combination of the two, or what.

He also said that he thinks the MTV stuff is a 'mixed bag of material', meaning some great stuff, some not-so-great stuff.

All I can tell you is that I e-mailed him about getting on the ball to release the MTV stuff, and he wrote back, making the 'mixed bag' comment as well as adding 'let me make some phone calls...', but his time really is all taken up by the internet show he does at his website [tomgreen.com].

So, whatever the story is, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. His internet show is apparently starting to get some strong ratings, so, maybe if that show really takes off, MTV will do it...if it's up to them. [shrugs]

wow... i am stunned at how little activity there is on this board. i just got back from "the dana carvey show" message board (a way less popular and more obscure show than TTGS, imo)and it's fairly healthy. i expected this board to be brimming with activity! wtf??? tom green was a household name but 5 odd years ago. what happened to all of his fans?

This show needs a dvd release. I grew up watching Tom Green. well, if writing letters and complaining of Forums can get Family Guy back on the Tube, then we can get Tom Green on Dvd.

reply

I got the best of The Tom Green show about 4 years ago on DVD

reply

I just bought the inside and outside the box-set it is really funny but does not have much of the MTV stuff which I loved I was not allowed to watch it so my friend would tape the show and I would go over to his house every Saturday and watch it god I miss those days.

I am also waiting for this show to have a proper dvd set with special features, the works.

I loved the show so f...ing much! I loved how Tom got on his parents nerves. The painting of the car with a pair of lesbians was a hilarious moment. I couldn't stop laughing when he arrived to the bus stop to pick up his dad to get him to work.

I remember the voice mail made by Tom's dad about some crazy sh!t Tom did. "I will sue you bastards for a million dollars"

The Roswell episode. Dressed like a Men In Black got under the skin of those cranky old people in charge of the Ovni movement out there.

I loved how a good sport was Glen. He was hilarious. I loved how he looks at a plane the passes by with Tom flinging his clothes out the window.

The beating he took from a female black security guard in a game arcade.

The old crazy man. "Where are you going?"

The time he dressed like an old man and took apart a supermarket with a motorized wheelchair. He was in the company of an elderly actress and Tom kissed her in the mouth during his interview. Totally unexpected.

Glen acting out a scene with a gay porno actor.

Tom humping a dead moose.

Tom eating kitty litter.

Tom turning his parents home into a farm, painting the house in weird colors, building a fountain of their parents having anal sex, waking them in the middle of the night and depositing a cow's severed head on their bed.

If this show gets a dvd set I would buy it in a second!

reply

Glad you brought up the Roswell episode. Some of the skits he did in the desert were BY FAR his best material and that's why it kills me that it's not on DVD.

The man is a genius. Obviously an entirely under appreciated one too. I'm guessing maybe one of the reasons this msg board is dead is because Tom has his own site where people can comment on. I dunno.

Anyway, you can find a lot of his stuff on youtube but let's all cross our fingers and hope he gets a beautiful DVD package out on the market sometime soon.

P.S. when Tom Green claims he found an alien in Roswell but it's just him in a straight jacket who goes up to a cow and starts licking him.. probably my fav skit ever.

I know the traffic on this board is minimal, but if anyone stumbles into this thread, and agrees, sign this petition I wrote up:

I found an old VHS copy of "Something Smells Funny" at my house a few years ago and now stumbled upon it again.
Today i saw it for the first time and it's Hilarious!!

This thread has been dead for 8-9 months, but most 20 year old kids don't realize that Tom Green was in his PRIME back in Canada, NOT on MTV. Some of the funniest skits that aired on MTV, were actually filmed years earlier in Canada, where Tom did WAY MORE outrageous stuff.

That being said, I would love to have the complete MTV box set, for all the new funny material Tom created from in 1999 and 2000.

reply

Yea the Canada stuff is great, but the U.S. versions are needed if for no other reasons then these two words:

Serio Carpens.

Stupidest skit, but made me laugh so hard. He's on the cruise ship with a guy, whose name is Serio Carpens. Tom Green gets him to continually repeat "Hello Kathy" and it is so funny.

Oh and Piggy Hill (although that may have been from his Canada days)

"I'm gonna throw the piggy off the hill,
I'm gonna hrow the piggy off the hill.
I'm gonna throw the piggy off, I'm gonna throw the piggy off, I'm gonna throw the piggy off the hill" (Repeated for about 4 minutes straight).
