DVD Release urgently needed.

I remember watching this show years ago and have come to the conclusion that this needs to be released on DVD. I spoke to Acorn Media UK and they said they were looking into acquiring the rights to release this a year or so ago. When I spoke to them today about something else I asked about The Citadel and was told no further progress had been made at the moment. Fingers crossed that it will eventually be released on DVD.

I feel optimistic this series will eventually make it to DVD. If the BBC finally released Last of the Mohicans, which everyone involved claimed would never make it to DVD, then I think this series can make it, as well. I saw the marvelous Clare Higgins on Broadway several years ago and was reminded of this fantastic series. Higgins and Ben Cross had phenomenal chemistry.

Glad others are pushing for this. My wife and I think the three greatest British miniseries ever were:

1. Brideshead Revisited
2. To Serve Them All My Days
3. The Citadel

The first two have been out for a while and we own them. We ardently wish "The Citadel" would be issued.

Spoke to Acorn Media UK again yesterday. It is not on their list for release this year. Will speak to them again in nine months or so to see if any progress has been made. That's all we can do for the moment. It is frustrating though.

I totally support your cause! I loved this series as well. I'd read the book as a teenager and found this series exceeded even my fond memories of the book. My husband loved the book too and so want him to be able to see the series and as well see it again myself. Good heavens, it's been 27 years...

Thanks for this concerted effort, nicola!

Thanks for keeping up the pressure. Let us know if there's anything the rest of us can do.

Would really like to have this on DVD.

We watched the first installment and then I checked the book out of the library the next day and read it before we watched the second installment. I was amazed at how well they followed the book.

This is the series that got me hooked on Dr. A. J. Cronin. I've since read nearly everything he wrote.

Hi from a very new member to IMDb. I've followed the messages on here regarding DVD release for the '83 version of The Citadel. I enjoyed this series on TV first time round and the story has stuck with me.
Been doing much digging around and found it available through a site called iOffer. They have a whole raft of different sellers and I have used it once before to obtain a DVD of the Karen Carpenter story, with which I was very pleased. I've ordered The Citadel as a 5 disc set and can't wait to see it again. For anyone interested, here's the link to the site.

Thanks so much for the tip, vulcanfan! What a great service! Welcome to the wacky world of IMDb, which at its best can really offer useful information, as well as a chance to discuss one's favorite programs.

Cheers!

Hi greenegg, you're very welcome. I had this series so stuck in my mind that I just dug until I found it. I'm like a dog with a bone and won't let go till I succeed. Hope you manage to get a copy.
Regards.
