The Citadel 1983 miniseries

I am looking for a VHS copy of this wonderful miniseries. It is still relevant today, regarding water pollution, and the little guy trying to fight the system. It is faithful to the A.J. Cronin book, which the 1938 film (starring Robert Donat)is not. I see that 18 other people have rated it, so perhaps...

I, too, have been desperately looking for a video or DVD of this version. Have you had any success? I have a friend whose daughter works at the BBC and even they seem to have forgotten about it. They suggested that I purchase it in PAL format, if I can find it, and then have it converted into NTSC, but I cannot find a copy anywhere. If you do find one, please let me know where. Thanks!

I too contacted the BBC recently about it and was told that it is not available to purchase nor would it be screened again in the near future. Surely somebody must have a copy of it somewhere?

I am sure someone has a copy somewhere, but I have not been able to find anyone who does. If anyone does, I hope they contact one of us. I have even asked A and E to air old "masterpieces" like this and "To Serve Them All My Days," but have received no reply.

I wonder if WBGH in Boston would have a copy, since they were the sponsors of the original airing in the States? I am going to try to call them next week. Wish me luck!

Were you able to find a copy of this terrific miniseries? I've been searching around for it. I did notice that the VHS and DVD for "To Serve Them All My Days" is available beginning March 2004 at Amazon.com. But I want to purchase The Citadel. I called WBGH Boston, but they don't have it either.

Hi,

I'm curious whether you were able to find a VHS copy of "The Citadel"? When it appeared on PBS in the mid '80s I taped much of it but unfortunately misplaced or lost these tapes after a few moves over the years. A&E doesn't have it, and WBGH doesn't have it either. I've phoned both places. I'm looking for someone who taped it who might be willing to have it copied for me.

Thanks
Sean

I have all but one epsiode of the series on VHS. (No pt 4) It is very old, and of course video quality, but I do treasure it. I know the speech at the GMC off by heart - (how sad)

Anyone want a copy- email me and we may be able to work something out.

Thank Heavens (or something else)for You Tube. We mortals can see all the great stuff that is not otherwise available for all the reasons cited in these comments. As of this day, July 25, 2016, I have enjoyed the first of five episodes of this Masterpiece Theatre production.

This is mighty, mighty late in posting a reply, but I have always believed in "better late than never."

I bought this wonderful, long-time favorite drama from Mr. Kackley and was very pleased with the accuracy of his recording and transfer to DVD. I am still (after two and a half years !) much indebted to him and his foresight when *he* first viewed it.
