America vs the rest....typical?

does it strike anyone else that almost ALL the friggin negative comments (exept for that guy from seattle who loved it and the danish guy who found it a bore) are posted by Americans?? i wonder why....
few options:
1.it is absolutely true 99% of america has NO taste whatsoever
2.this 99% are jealous because the most beautifull movies are non-hollywood (read:non-american) and thus look more for reasons to b*tch about them than to just experience it
3.these 99% are either lazy or dumb
4.first statement is not true, more americans have good taste but either don't give a rat's 'tushy' :-) about commenting or don't have internet or don't know about imdb or i should just shut up :-D hahahaha
or like me, satisfied with another comment and feeling no need to re-hash someone else's statement...(i admit,i'm somewhat lazy too ;-)) but on the other hand, i WOULD like to enter a positive comment because that negative bs a visitor reads on the premier page of Tuvalu at this point of writing doesn't do the film justice...

I'm from America and I love this movie!

We watched this in my film class. I really enjoyed it. Some people in my class thought it was boring, though. But they're not important.

I am American and I adored this movie. I Can't speak for anyone else.

Scully: Then we believe the same thing.
Mulder: Maybe there's hope.

reply

I thought it was a beautiful and funny film. However, I'm not american. I agree with the original poster.

I'm Canadian.... does that count??? This is one of my favorite movies, and slowly becoming my favorite... one day I will marry Ms. Hamatova and live happily ever after!

reply

I agree with Mnemosyne-9 that negative comments on the premier page of Tuvalu do the film unjustice.

I loved the film. (saw it 6 years ago) can't wait to see it again and show it to my friends, but in croatia it's very hard to get such a film.

as for the audience... hm, people in Europe live a diferent kind of life, we like diferent kind of movies than the americans...

anyway... Tuvalu - a film you must see!

reply

Uhm... I'm american (unfortunately, seeing as the majority of us are pig-headed action-junkies) and I adored the film. Actually, the majority of my favorite films are either foreign or obscure american films that few people have seen. Yeah. On top of that, I'm only 16! ;) Loved this movie and I can't wait to get home and watch it for the fourth time...

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Anyone who thinks the movie "Fight Club" is some kind of masterpiece shouldn't comment on other people having bad taste.

I love both!

Maybe it's that they are less pretentious???? This was far too Jeunet/Caro inspired and simply not a good movie.

(From San Francisco) I caught this on Netflix, and I was pretty happy that I get to watch it with my boyfriend. We tried looking for more information about the director-- no wiki on him yet! Anyways this movie is underrated.

reply

I saw it in a theater. I really enjoyed it and I am an Anerican. My boyfriend saw it twice. He is also an American. We aren't all idiots.

reply

never said ALL ;-) this just means you're two of the 1% that HAVE good taste ;-)
glad you enjoyed it! keep cool! ;-)

(damn that initial post is old... forgot i ever wrote that, curious how the comments were after this post... but now: sleepy time)

"Power to the people who punish bad cinema!!" - Cecil B. Demented for president!!

I get your point.

99% might be too high.

I'm an American.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I could watch the scene of Grigor being pushed into the pool 100 times and laugh each time.

Yesterday I watched "Dogtooth". I loved "Tyrannosaur". I loved "Moon". I loved "The Deer Hunter". No laziness or tastelessness involved.

That said, I enjoyed "The Avengers". I think "Beerfest" is classic. "the Thing" and "Blade Runner" are brilliant sci-fi.

So, you might be over-generalizing.

I think the American film studios are scratching their heads about new movie ideas. They've been at the forefront of movies since forever so they are going to have writers block. I've found that the majority of really good films these days are non-American. Maybe they can find their game again.
