I read in a review that the mermaid used to sing to the artist in the river when he was young (that was how they met). Did it ever actually show that in the movie? Was there a scene of her singing to him from the river when he was young??

If i remember correctly, she looked exactly the same. She represents nature, innocence, purity, etc., so that makes sense to me. She is an ideal that's decaying.
