If the mermaid was indeed his hallucination, then how do you explain the fish head found by his neighbour in the rubbish bags?

sharehe may have been simply cutting it up and storing it in the apartment somewhere or attempting to flush it away (the fish has to be in the apartment somewhere because of the neighbours smelling rotting fish but seeing a human dead body and no trace of fish)
also the hallucination theory seems to be more likely when you consider the highly unlikely element to his hallucination that the dying mermaid just happens to be leaking a multicoloured paint substitute (a bit too conveniant wouldnt you say lol)
