So, I just watched this film...

...And I must say it was shocking (mostly the eye-gouging scene), but not as bad as I thought it would be. (Isn't the anticipation aspect of gore films great? That's why I like them.) I consider myself a gore/sick film "novice" with titles such as these in my history: Audition (Unrated), Ichi the Killer (Unrated), Visitor Q (Unrated), Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (Gaumont), and now this one. I've also seen stuff such as Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Dawn of the Dead (original), and so forth.

I thought the gore in this film was about 90% realistic. The chicken scene was so fake it was laughable. (If it weren't for the chicken scene, I'd say the gore looked about 97% realistic.) I can definitely see how Charlie Sheen thought it was real, especially if he watched it on VHS and it was grainier and harder to see the special effects.

I'm hesitant to watch films such as Men Behind the Sun and Cannibal Holocaust, though, since I heard that animals really died in the making of them (true?). I'm not a fan of real violence, as it were. I'm thinking of tracking down August Underground's Mordum since I hear it's the most (or one of the most) violent films ever, but again, the anticipation has me hesitant. Ha ha.

All-in-all, great [gore] film, and I recommend it.

Def. pick up August Underground's Mordum its awesome, as well as August Underground, my copy of FOFAB will be here tomorrow along with the devil's experiment/android of notre dame, cant wait.

Cannibal Holocaust (and every cannibal film for that manner) definitely has animal mutilation, so if you're sensitive about it you might want to skip on it. Men Behind the Sun's 'cat scene' is subject of wide debate as no one knows whether it's fake or not. Director T.F. Mous neither nor confirmed the rumour, so he's probably just maintaining the urban legend. I personally think it's fake. It's filmed cleverly, but if you examine it closely it looks quite fake. Be aware that there is an actual autopsy in MBtS though.

Thanks, agoraphobicnosebleed. I'll keep it in mind.

gummo... hey lets drown cats?

faces of death probably tops a lot of those moives -_-
consider peter jacksons bad taste and dead alive/braindead for yourself if you want a nice gore film!

reply

Faces of Death is totally fake!!!!!

reply

Unlike the rest of the films mentioned so far, which are TOTALLY REAL.

Mordum is a more of a bore fest than a gore fest but still very sick. GP2 is more pleasing to the eye... I thought it was pretty good given the time it was made, very dark idea.

Now this is where it becomes confusing for everyone who has written about the infamous "Za Ginipiggu" series. Even the Internet Movie Database website gives the wrong years in the information posted. After numerous requests to the producers in Japan, we finally received the information on the release dates. The actual year of production for each film is:

· Devil's Experiment 1985 "Akumano Jikken" aka "Unabridged Agony"

· Flower of Flesh and Blood 1985 "Chiniku No Hana"

· He Never Dies 1986 "Senritsu! Shinanai Otoko"

· Making of Guinea Pig 1986 "Mekingu Obu Za Ginipiggu"

· Mermaid In A Manhole 1988 "Manhoru No Naka No Ningyo"

· Androids Of The Notre Dame 1988 "Notorudamo no Andoroido"

· Devil Woman Doctor 1990 "Peter No Akuma No Joi-San"

· Making of Devil Woman Doctor 1990 "Bangaihen:
Akumano Joi-san Meikingu"

· Slaughter Special 1991 "Zansatsu Supeshiyaru"

· Lucky Sky Diamond 1989
(Technically not a Guinea Pig release but often referred as one.)

I've just watched it also, and I must say, for all I've read about it here and everywhere on the internet, I was expecting more. The visuals are impressive, but the movie itself isn't. If Charlie Sheen really did think that was real, he made quite an ass of himself.
