views on violence

Hi peeps,
Im posting this message on several of these hardcore horror boards. Im not here to cause trouble, and I don't really want to hear ranting judgement calls on how 'sick' people are or whether this movie is any good, all i want to know is:

In all honesty, do you find the graphic violence portrayed in this film a sexual turn on? If not, fine - feel free to just put "no" and move on, or ignore this thread entirely. If you do find it sexy, and care to elaborate on why, then i am truly interested in your opinion.

As i said before, if you feel like ranting on about "sick ba stards" or anything, just click onto another thread - please don't waste your time and energy being offended over an honest enquiry that was never meant to make anyone angry.

Feel free to private message me if you would rather not place your opinon on these boards.

Sarah

This never really occurs to me. In fact, I encounter the opposite in most cases. For example, when I saw "Saw 3," I wasn't turned on by the naked girl in the freezer room. The fact she was in pain or dying made it seem weird to be thinking about sex or anything sex-related at the time. I think movies like this deliver a rush, but I don't think it's sexual. It's more like a roller coaster. It's intense, and the anticipation of something awful is half of the excitement. I guess I love gory and death movies because they show me I'm alive and it could be worse? Never really thought about it...

I just get so turned on by torture. I t feels sooooo good to watch people get cut up. I love their blood spilling and crazy stuff like that. NOOOOTTT!

Second comment I've posted on this question... the first being on Red Room.

I enjoy this type of film but do not get 'Turned on' by them... though I understand why some, worryingly, would. Sex and Death are comfortable bed fellows... All the accounts of sexual atrocities committed during periods of war prove there is a link, certainly a primal one in the male brain at the very least.

Seemingly when removed from 'Normal' life and put into a situation where there is less of a social moral code to live by, i.e. on the battlefield, for many reasons there is a blurring of the line between sex and violence.

This line, in the minds of some, doesn't exist or seem to be a problem even in a normal social arena. These are the people that would derive sexual pleasure from such work, rather than be entertained by a nasty bit of gore.

Honestly who in their right mind would find the violence in this a sexual turn on. A woman being slapped...kicked...spinned around in a chair... I don't think many people would find it arousing unless something's very much wrong with them.

I think this would probably just make most people sick, but there is definitively a turn-on factor with many hardcore horror movies. Hence all the naked ladies getting killed. I have to say I got turned on a few times watching the Ilsa movies and the strangling in the new Halloween film was very sexy

I'm not sure why, but I think the guy above me make many valid points about the strong natural connection between sex, violence and pain, especially in males. Then of course there is the subconscious who responds to drama and creates fetishes, where death, pain and violence could be very powerful. All dough most sane and civilized people who feel this way would simply join a S&M or roleplaying community rather than become psycho killers. It's the ones that can't look deep enough into them self to see these hidden desires or those that are to afraid to acknowledge them that you have to look out for ;)

i agree with tripmixx

our minds relate sex with violence, with control and posession or something. this isnt to say that sex isnt inspired by love or tender emotions, but that having control is exciting in itself, and probably inspires other violent emotions. people in touch with their emotions know not to act out on these desire, but to express them in other ways such as roleplaying. or like my boyfriend, watching these kind of films.

personally these films momentarily blind me lol but so long as its a movie i dont let it get to me too much.

Is this part of a study of some sort? I'm just curious as to why you ask, you haven't returned to the thread since the original post...
I'm not going to elaborate on my own views, as onelovepiggot, shock tactics, and tripmixx already summed up anything I would of said.
Good day.

Hi people, just to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to these discussions - I have been away for a while while I have been writing, but have been monitoring responses (i kinda wanted to leave the discussion alone so I wouldn't sway the responses).
While I have now written the piece, I am still interested in people's views on the subject, so don't feel that this debate is "over".
Thank you again,
Sarah

Why don't I buy this?

Something about this topic does not ring true to me.

I like movie-violence. But what does that have to do with sex?

reply

are you serious..?

most mentally fine people do not get turned on by guts, blood and gore

like in final destination 3

two extremely hot girls get fried to a crisp

it doesn't turn you on

most people either feel disgusted or a thrill or excitement

thats rather as far as a person's mind can go unless he is mentally ill..

oh and if you get turned on by this

go see a psychiatrist

reply

If you get excited by seeing someone's eye getting stabbed (I'm completly ignoring the fact that u talked about final destination 3) then you should maybe join her to the psychiatrist :')

Coming from a female standpoint here, I definitely don't find movies like this a turn on. Actually, no hostel 2 bathory was kinda sexy in a really messed up way. Anyway, I like these because sometimes I feel sort of empty and emotionless and these make me feel sad or upset. Plus, they make me extra vigilant about locking my doors and stuff lol.

no I just love the visuals I'm not a psycho or anything but I just enjoy the sheer brutality and I love to go ohhhh that must have hurt and sometimes I laugh some horror movies like brain dead which is incredibly gory is one of the most gory and hilarious films I have had the pleasure of watching

reply

Im a gore and horror fan... enjoy death scenes, etc... and a little torture as well... but THIS...??? THIS kinda thing presents the real psychos with ideas. There is no objective, no reason, not even entertainment.
I haven't watched this, although I was going to, as I have watched heaps of gorey and horror stuff... but after reading all about it: NO, thanx!!!
I wonder why it constantly reminds me of something I read about a while ago!!! http://swordandscale.com/the-torture-of-junko-furuta/
