Would've been hailed the successor of Scorsese.

Bleeder (1999) was excellent and made me realize that the manchild is another one of Refn's film-maker fetishes. An absolutely compelling and searing piece of work. If Refn had continued to make films like this, he would've been hailed as the successor of Martin Scorsese. While that's a great honour, I'm very glad he went his own way and found his own auteurist voice. This is very gritty and uncompromisingly disturbing. I'd say something like "Martin Scorsese meets Gaspar Noe." 8/10. I think I'm going to revisit Pusher trilogy.

Personally, I think he's more like Peckinpah, but less of an *beep*
