Does anybody else remember the year Elton John was on Soul Train? 1973 or 1974?

It was 1975 because he sang "Benny and the Jets" and "Philadelphia Freedom".

mary j blige uses piano snippets of benny and the jets for her song, i think elton is actually doing the piano for deep inside, i love it

Wonder why he came on board?

I know there have been some white acts like Hall & Oats who sang soul and since disco sort of evolved out of soul and r&b I'm sure groups like The Bee Gees and KC & The Sunshine Band probably were just as big on the soul charts and well as the pop charts but EJ?

That I was surprised.

Benny and the Jets was a BIG hit with African-Americans the year it came out and it got a lot of play on the radio stations with a soul/disco format.

Getting Elton John was huge. He was enormously popular in 1975.

Interestingly, he never appeared on Bandstand.

The video is on youtube, and it says 1975. That episode is scheduled for 5am, Monday morning, on Bounce.
