Could anyone please explain to me where this Malcolm dummy has come from? And what was that all about? I don't recall any explanation in the episodes, Anita just brought him and everyone was greeting him... I don't get it

Malcolm was supposed to sit in the passenger seat of the car to make any would-be criminals think she had a man in the car with her and therefore make her less of a target.
