Tony and Petula

Am I the only one who found the implied liaison at the end of "Party" between Tony and Bren's mother on the fire escape completely left field? I can't understand what would possess Tony to go anywhere near Petula with all he knows of her and her grubbiness, and the very fact she is Bren's mother. I thought this storyline was unrealistic in an otherwise perfect series

No your not the only one, I totally agree with you. It just didn't seem right at all.

"Is it still raining I hadn't noticed!"

also agree, i only saw series one for the first time recently and that bit made me cringe, seemed totally out of place compared to the rest of the series

You're all wrong and I would suggest you watch the episode again. The only 'implied liaison' between Tony and Petula was in Petula's head.

i'm not sure i want to sit through the tucking in of clothes and the uncomfortable atmosphere at the end of that episode again :/

I've just re-watched the episode and you're right - ugh! I can't believe it either, I mean as funny as Petula is, she's a tramp at the end of the day.

He was a bit pissed (drunk) and Petula confused him. I imagine they got to what Americans call 2nd base (boob fondling) though I do agree that it is a bit weird! It is a classic case of talking at cross purposes!

I don't know what happened on that fire escape but something did. He came back awful disheveled and looking rather sheepish. (Which made me kinda wince.) I mean, I get that Tony was supposed to be in a bad way, sex wise. But Petula's a walking disaster and the horrible mother of a woman he likes. It would've made more sense him getting off with Jean. But talk about unexpected twists.
