I did not think Jack was that bad.

He did seem to have a bit of a temper, but I noticed he only seemed to get upset when the daughter would swear. What is wrong with him reprimanding her for that? I think he wanted people to respect her and felt that her swearing was not lady like. Plus, I understand she was cast in the play and it was exciting, however, there was nothing wrong with him asking her to put the book down when they were at the restaurant. Overall, she was a good girl, however, those things she did were disrespectful and her mother was wrong to never address the swearing.

I agree to some extent, but ... it was refreshing to see a woman in a movie get out of a relationship before it got seriously abusive. As the mother said as they were leaving the restaurant, "I see where this is going." The guy lost it in the middle of a public place, which is not a good sign. For once, she was taking action and preventing the situation from escalating. In a lot of movies, they would have pushed it until he started hitting her, because that would make for better on-screen conflict. It was nice to see a movie that avoided going for the easy cliche.

Tht kid was so annoying and the way the mother thought everything Ava did was so special and cute was, too. Also, I feel this movie went for every easy cliche in the book.

The mom's whole problem was that she put having a man as a priority, ahead of her daughter. We see this as she nervously tries to mollify him in the restaurant. Then she triumphs as she finally finds her own will and voice. Reminds me of An Unfinished Life.

When you think of garbage, think of Hakim!
