did Tumbleweeds remind anyone else of Mermaids?

I actually liked it. In every scene featuring Jack, I tensed up, and relaxed as soon as he was out of the picture. To me that means the director and actors succeeded.

To those who were creeped out at the mom coaching her daughter on kissing and acting silly with feminine hygiene products, this mother and daughter were communicating, and the mom had her daughter's back. Anyone who has kids recognizes that these are the hallmarks of a solid relationship.

People complain about that? I thought it was cute, and probably helpful to a girl that age to not treat it like something deathly serious...

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?

Actually, I was reminded of another film that also came out in 1999 "Anywhere but Here" with Susan Sarandon & Natalie Portman. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0149691/).
Both films are about a struggling single-mother barely keeping it together raising a pre-pubescent daughter and their trials and tribulations as they take road trips moving around the country.

Never seen Mermaids or the other movie mentioned, but this movie reminded me of "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore".

"It is better to die standing than to live on your knees."

Please don't compare this movie to any other. It's beautiful on its own.

Anyway, Mermaids doesn't even come close to being as fabulous as Tumbleweeds.

This waste of time is what is wrong with what was once America.
