tom quinn & the beauty of the first couple of seasons..

it is brilliant.. •^_^•
perhaps not the best to have watched 2 & a bit seasons in such quick succession.. hehe.. like a long deep roller coaster of a film..
not sure if i can go on.. as i am at the precipice of what is clearly the end of this beautiful character at the forefront of a wonderful group in a brilliant show.. but perhaps that is ok..
the music.. the ocean.. the intricacies.. the look of old mobile phones even..
aah already nostalgic for this show somehow..
i do not think i would have loved it if i did watch it a decade ago.. understood the nuances.. everything it brings as a show.. a decade ago at least.. indeed.. when an eccentric video store owner recommended it.. so i am most happy it was perhaps found on the right rainy day.. & my memory of a fresh [spooks] dvd case surrounded by vhs tapes in a quaintly cramped video store finally made me dive in.. •^_^•
so yes.. cheers to the character of tom quinn.. & also to the beauty of the first couple of seasons..
any replies.. please do be kind..
{i may watch an episode or two more & see the feel for me.. i know the character of zoe is there a little longer & there is nobody i really dislike..}
goodnight lovely people out there.. be kind to one another.. ♡+☮

Every once in a while I like to revisit this show, particularly the first 2 seasons. That is what I was doing today and decided to check out these boards again. I have watched most the the show's 10 series run (I skipped the latter half of season and the whole of four), and although you will find varying opinions about which series was the best and who was the best agent, the first 2 remain my favorite series. I loved how physically and psychologically vulnerable all of the characters were. No one felt safe. I also loved how human they were. A lot of shows skip over the financial realities of most of these jobs that make sexy tv. Yes, the job is interesting and important, but it was great to see the characters deal with national security issues as well as the seemingly mundane issue like I don't make enough money to afford my rent. And then there is Tom Quinn. I loved how his character compartmentalized his emotions and seemed emotionally unshakable but there were these moments that made you know that he was still very much connected to everything around him. My favorite scene is the one in which Tom is on I believe a stake out with two officers, and they are sharing their lives and he mentions that has two kids Danny and Zoe. It really showed the dynamic between these characters and his affection for them despite his role as their boss.

The tone of the show changes as it progresses in series. It becomes less a psychological chess match with the introduction of characters that take the show more in the direction of action and combat, but there are some great moments to come. The evolution of the character Ruth and her relationship with Harry is truly a treat to watch unfold.

Nice post blueslide.

I'd have to check the timeline but I reckon the first three series of this has the feel to it you describe and then it takes on a 24 style feel.

Did S4 of Spooks start just after S1 of 24 at all?

S1 - S2/3 has a distinctly classic British feel to it for me.

See looking back though, the actor playing Danny isn't great at all.

I like the 2nd phase of the show with Adam (took a while to get used to him though) and the last lot with Lucas, Ros and Dmitri etc was the least engaging of it all.

do you mean by the beauty is ellie? I really don't like her. I think she's annoying after she found out Tom is a spy.
I just started watching this series, I like the plot, characters and stories. Ellie is the only thing that annoy me.
