Stopped watching after Macfadyen's departure. How has it been ?

Eleven season in, that's quite an accomplishment. What seasons are worth watching ? I gave up after the stories that had McFadyen as one of the series' leads. Is it worth continuing ? Do all the seasons connect ? If not, what's the best point to get back into it ?

Thx

I enjoyed it up to the end. I liked Macfadyen a lot, but Rupert Penry-Jones was a solid replacement, and had some very good story lines during his run as the lead.

Yes, there is often carry-over from one season to the next. For instance, the last episode of season four and the first two of season 5 are all connected--and one of my favorite MI-5 stories.

Many complain about the last few seasons, and I can see what they mean, altho I still liked the show. Besides, the final season is more than worth watching, if just for the excellent way they wrapped it up at the end.

I'd start where you left off if I were you. For the sake of consistency of story lines it's best not to skip any episodes. The only series I disliked was the last one, but that was mainly because the actors playing the Section Chief and the Senior Case Officer (Lara Pulver and Max Brown) were - at least in my opinion - very poor replacements for their predecessors. I believe they're considered good-looking, but for me that didn't compensate for the fact that both have the acting ability of a clothes-peg. But that's just my opinion, and you may think completely differently. Happy viewing!

Like you, I originally gave up when Macfadyen left the show.

But in the past couple of weeks, I've started watching the show again, starting right from the beginning. Is it worth watching? I'd say so. Personally, the first three seasons were the best and then the changes in writing were noticeable...or maybe those first couple of seasons were just so good in my mind that the show could never reach those heights again.

There is some excellent acting and the show blows away a lot of similar shows. Watching this really shows just how poor too many North American shows are these days.

As others have said, you really should watch it all in order for it to make sense.

I'd love to hear what you think of the show if you do decide to give it another try!

Cheers, Derek

Hi
Could you tell me when MM left? I want to buy a couple of seasons but only up until he left.
Thanks!

He left during season 3, after 2 first episodes.

He also appears in the very last episode 10.06.
