This movie and 10 things I hate about you

I just watched both of these movies around the same time and it struck me that they were really similar. I know they're based on different plays and I realize that Zach and Laney in many ways are really different from Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles' characters, but yeah...both Laney and Kat are both social outcasts, feminists. Both of the guy characters, Zach and Patrick, try to date them because they'll get something out of it (money, winning a bet). At first Laney and Kat blow the guys off, but guys keep being persistent. The guys end up falling for the girls instead. Then the girls find out and are upset, then they make up later...and they both have a prom scene near the end (i know a lot of movies like this probably have the prom, but just another similarity) Maybe this is a rather common plot for a high school movie, but it seems to me like such a similar plot, just different characters and slightly different circumstances. And both of these movies came out in 1999.

Yeah when I think of class chick flick movies in the 90s, I, and I think many others, will lump these 2 movies in the same category. Both had some pretty big name talent actors for this genre that made a somewhat silly plots have great chemistry and catchy writing. I personally consider these 2 movie "classics" of this genre.

I think 10 Things is quite better.

Yes, 10 Things was much better.

It's true, there are similarities, and both were realised in 99' (the same year I graduated from high school, damn I'm old!).
I LOVE "10 Things I Hate About You". Patrick is a rebel and Kat doesn't have to change for anyone.
But in "She's All That", Laney had to change her behaviour and Zack was the "popular" guy...

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.

What plays are they based on?

10 Things is based on The Taming of The Shrew
She’s All That is based on Pygmalion

It's not that they're similar, as much as, There were a LOT of "Teen" Movies at the time, it was kind of a fad of the time, They even made a parody movie "Not Another Teen Movie" because they were so prominent.

This one and 10 things just tell the quintissential high school story of romance I think, in America, where you have cliques, and social status, and finding something real amidst that, when you do, someone tries to tear it down. And there are all kinds of competing ego's and motives.

10 things survives primarily because of Heath Ledger lending his performance to it. I would say, She's All THat is a better all around film than 10 things I Hate About You. Think of how poor an actor the main jock was in 10 things compared to the one in She's all that. Also, Rachel Leigh Cook is much more relatable and likable as a character to me. In 10 things , Julia Styles is just unneccesarily rude to the point of ridiculouslness.

A film needs to be taken as a whole , sum of its parts. 10 Things just has an amazing performance by Ledger but that doesn't mean it's neccesarily better than this, as a film, as I said I prefer She's All That. It has a better script, better acting, better soundtrack too.
