I just saw this film at the Edinburgh Film Festival and it is appallingly bad.
The person who wrote the glowing IMDB review has (not surprisingly) never written a review for anything else. Draw your own conclusions.

The script, (most of) the performances and direction were appalling. Nothing to do with the budget.
The imdb release dates show it went straight to video (DVD) with no general release.

i agree this is one of the worst movies in the history of film. It is nothing to do with the budget. More to do with the weak plot, script, acting and direction. It is so bad i am struggling to put into words just how bad this movie is. For those of you who enjoyed this trash then i envy you for having such a low satisfaction threshold enabling you to enjoy absolutely anything thrown at you.
shareIt was no classic but you need to watch some more movies before you start calling this one of the worst. Blood Monkey looks worse than this, F. Murray Abraham or not. But come on...Blood Monkey! With F. Murray Abraham! Just watched it and liked The Prodigy just fine. Not changing the world but a fun ride, no more or less. Nicely bleak at the end too.

Yeah, I am so tired of this *beep* - I'm done...I'm swearing off of sub-6.0 films. That's two hours (minus fast-forwarding) of my life I'll never get back...blah!

The Prodigy is doing great. It is a great thriller, that is why we have received awards and great write ups from Variety magazine and many others. The weird thing about it is all f the sudden we just got three bad messages in a 24 hour period. We have not had anyone write about it in a few months, could you be the same person with three different accounts? I would bet you are. My guess is that you are either a hardcore religious nut or you have no taste. Probably both.
