I don't like the fact that Harry gets killed, even though he is a maniac, i love his character, it always makes me a bit sad when he dies.

I did like that Harry is killed, because it's an issue as an action by Maura. In light of her character--she is a police detective--she would NEVER do something like that; it's "taking the law into your own hands." But, in the context of the characters in the film, the alternative would be having Maura radio in to the cops to get Harry arrested, would be such a wimpy ending, in light of how amoral and revolting Harry's character is. He would serve 10-15 yrs. in prison and get released (NY State hasn't killed anyone in a million yrs.) As we watch Frances Hannon, seeing her suffering, realizing that Frances knew that the cop who was trying to save her almost got killed in the same horrifying manner as well, I think the film justifiably takes license to have a detective kill the "suspect." I think it's a more satisfying ending, with "closure."

@aroth15: Well stated. The character Harry needed to die this dramatic and symbolic death.

OK. It's always good to feel sympathy for the the pscho-killer.
I wanted to see her board up the casket and bury him alive, every day for the rest of his pathetic life.
