thoughts from a local

I live very close to Margate where this film was shot, And used to go there as a child as a birthday treat. So to me this was quite interesting to see how it had changed.

I also agree with the reviewer the peoples face as they walked around the park. The people seemed unimpressed and the fun was thrust apon them and it didn't seem to sink in.

The only part of the park from the film that still exist is the rollercoaster which ive been told is one of the oldest in England. The park has now mostly shut down and there just a few rides which seem to be on loan from traveling carnivals.

Good to see that some people, however few, have gained exposure to this excellent short film. Might I ask where you saw it? How recently? I fear it will soon disappear. I don't know of any copies still existent in the U.S.--MOMA had one for rent, but it wore out about 15 years ago. I have a copy on VHS that Lindsay Anderson provided me about two decades ago, but it may be the only one in America. Otherwise, I guess the BFI must have a copy. A pity the way film heritage can disappear from the public.

Based on your current observations and viewing of O DREAMLAND, perhaps you might make a "Now and Then" sort of documentary. Something to think about???

I'm six years too late to the message board, but it has been uploaded to youtube where it can live on.
