Original Book Title?
I am certain I read this story in the 1980s, but it was called "The Countrywoman" then and there was a daughter named Babby who dies.
Can anyone confirm this?
There is a book called "The Countrywoman" by Paul Smith that is about a poor Irish family, living in Dublin in the first part of the last century. In that story, her missing husband returns home and causes problems in a new and better life that she's created for her family. "Agnes Browne" is based on "The Mammy" by Brendan O'Carroll.

shareI haven't seen the film but there are four books by Brendan O'Carroll titled: The Young Wan, The Mammy, The Granny and The Chisellers. They are all great.
