I'm sure this has been discussed already, but anyway:
There are spaceships from Starship Troopers shown in a TV news cast at the beginning.
Many soldiers wear the same (or very similar) helmets as in Starship Troopers.
Am I wrong?
Nope you were right...also, not only the helmets but entire uniforms were the same. (I think I noticed this in the show Firefly as well) Actually, the soldier recruiting/disaster rescue scenes at the beginning were ripped right from the movie. The whole movie felt to me like a better sequel to Starship Troopers than "Hero of the Federation" was by like a million times. Similar plot I noticed as well. Excellent movie..
shareNo you are not wrong, but those shots and those props are not so much a nod to Starship Troopers but more of a necessary usage of stock footage and old props to save money on a tight budget. (which would also account for the whole TV movie look & feel). I'm pretty sure they were hoping no one would notice.
