When Alex Retires...

...who would you like to replace him?

Are there any rumors circulating already?

reply

George Stephanopoulos is who I'd want to replace him.

Is Alex supposed to be retiring soon?

reply

There's been speculation that he was going to for the past three years. This year seems to be the most likely for him to do it.

Annoying the world since 1960!

reply

Alex isnt going anywhere. He is still competent, enjoys what he is doing, is well compensated, and has an easy work schedule. What more could someone want?

reply

Competent - we must be watching different programs - he should already be retired

reply

His current contract ends in 2018.

Wow, interesting that 5 years after this post, a week after Alex Trebek died, and George is still being seriously considered !

reply

He'll be 76 this summer. He has hosted Jeopardy! since 1984. So while he's earned his tetirement, and I'm sure he's comfortable financially, I can't see him stepping away from the podium any time soon.

reply

They should cancel it when Alex retires or decides that enough is enough. Without him, it won't be the same.

reply

Without him, it won't be the same.

I agree.

reply

I disagree. I like Alex, but before him there was Art Fleming, then Alex came along. The show is an intelligent game show something rare in this day and time. When Alex decides to retire there will be plenty of candidates that could replace him.

reply

I promised I'd never again watch The Family Feud after Richard Dawson retired.

Then I accidentally caught an episode with that idiot Steve Harvey hosting.

I really wish I had kept my promise.

reply

Was it Family Feud, or "The Black family vs. the White family" ??

reply

I disagree. I like Alex, but before him there was Art Fleming, then Alex came along.

I'm speaking from the perspective that Trebek's version is the only version I'm used to. I was 4 years old when it debuted and have watched it pretty much consistantly (and it's "special editions," ie "Super Jeopardy" in the early 90s) since 1984.

The show is an intelligent game show something rare in this day and time.

I agree, but I'm just saying that it won't be the same without Trebek, that's all. I'm not saying it should be cancelled or anything like that because we still need a show we can enjoy while still having to use our brains.

I'm sure I can get used to a new host like I got used to a mustacheless Trebek 

reply

That's what people thought when the show was revived without the original host, Art Fleming. But it seems like Alex has done pretty well......

Sheldon Cooper. He's highly intelligent, so would fit in with the show's style in that manner.

Only thing is if the champ picked the first clue, at the start of the game, from anywhere except the upper left corner, and then play didn't continue running that category in order, then moving to the next column over, it would throw him off.

If any of the players started jumping all over the board, he'd totally lose it.

I'm trying to think of somebody who is famous, intelligent, not elderly and not tied up with other projects. Maybe Bill Nye? Or they could go with a woman and get Wonder Years actress and math whiz Danica McKellar. I'd definitely tune in to see her each night.

reply

Perhaps John Hodgman, the PC guy from the Apple commercials.

reply

Ted Allen from Food Network.

Alton Brown!

reply

First thing they need to do is get Rich Fields, Jim Thornton, or Randy West to guest announce the show while Johnny is unavailbale. Or maybe have John O'Hurley, Mario Lopez, Ryan Seacrest, and Tom Berguron guest host for Alex.

reply

Will Ferrell is the only obvious choice for me.

Interesting reply from 5 years ago. Not too old to be president , I guess!

reply

Eugene Levy used to play "Alex Trebel" on SCTV. He could do it, but unfortunately, he's no chicken either.

On a more serious note, I'd like to see someone like Henry Rollins or Brian Unger do it.

Ken Jennings would be my choice.

But that also depends on whether he would even want the job.

I don't know what they have to say. It makes no difference anyway. Whatever it is, I'm against it.

Sorry, he'd be intolerable.

His voice and personality are both very annoying.

Looks like Trump will be extremely busy repairing the massive damage done to this country in the past eight years.
