William Aiken Walker painting - Cincinnati

(Original air-date 04/08/13)
When the woman told the story about how she had the painting in a garage sale, and a man brought it up to her and told her to bring it back into the house, I almost cried. He could have very easily bought it and made himself a very nice profit.
I wish that more people would treat each other that way.

I believe that what goes around, comes around so I hope some good karma came his way.

Me too.

I wonder how often the exact opposite thing happens where people go to yard sales and see something they assume is valuable, so they buy it, thinking they're ripping off the seller only to find out later that they've bought a piece of junk.

I just helped a garage sale for a friend. There were some really nice things there, like collector mugs, that could have gone for about $20.00 a piece, had we sold them on e-bay. Since we did not really have the time to do that, we were asking $5.00 each. People looked at us like we were crazy. I offered all 6 for $20.00 to a few people. Nobody bit. I now have 6 new mugs in my cupboard.

Allow me to brag a bit: I saw an old toy on ebay that the seller had priced way too low -- he didn't know what he had. I told him to raise his price. I think people are more honest than most give credit for.

Wow, great story! I missed that episode . How much was it worth?

Agree heartily re karma.

reply

It was a while ago that I saw the episode, but I think that it was worth around $15,000.
