It's the best one I've seen too, and fairly underrated. I guess it didn't do too well in Japan. Apparently they're getting sick of the U.C. era over there. I was a bit thrown off by the last episode though.

i loved it! it wasn't like the dramatic endless wing gundam series nor as old school, in a corny way, like the original

The DVD cover says it all.
BEST!

Somewhat disagree. While the Norris and Shiro battle was amazing and I like the real war aspect but Zeta or Victory are better only because this series lacks something, good character development. Shiro, Michal, Sanders, Eledore and Karen go into this show this show one way and come out the same with the exception of Shiro. Karen's still mean, Eledore's still is a music junkie, Michal's still a coward, Sanders still plays the tough guy. Shiro realizes that he can't be a superhero and he becomes a more competent leader, but that's about it from what I saw.

Not downing the show but it's not the best.

I wouldn't say that. I think Michal is introverted and changes quite a bit. His niave notions aren't the same by the end and he grows actually a lot stronger in the last "epilogue" episode and loses BB. ;)

I also think Kiki is a great character with a lot of depth. I thought Eladore was a douche, but a loveable one which was his point. The only character I didn't really care for (besides Guiniess for obvious reasons) was Aina because she was presented as too weak and air-headed for the first...7 episodes...of 12.

P.S. My favorite Gundam series is Gundam Wing (and yes I've seen the original, this, Stardust Memories, 0080 and parts of the DREADFUL Seed). but it just narrowly beats this one and has probably something to do with being a lot longer (over 4 times longer) and thus a little more to chew on and that i saw it first.

Well I agree Aina suffered from a privledged background, just as Shiro suffered from a sheltered background. But Aina when she is with Shiro acts kind off air headed, which I blame on the writers inability to write romantic idalogue. Like they're about to die and she is talking about the fireworks business or the way she hits on him in episode 7 before they make out...Really I understand why if these were in the same pool of writers that the love stories in Wing were almost all unspoken (and not hte lousy yaoi ones that plague the internet, I'm talking about the real ones that had basis in the show). Also the episode where she goes home she just seems so oblivious to her own self and only cares about her brohter. Even Norris is taken aback by her obsession overj ust focusing on Guniess's dream.

Shiro while in those romantic scenes had the same annoying writing but despite his inexperience he just felt like a stronger character who didn't let himself be taken advantage of. But I understand why you like Aina.

BTW did you ever see War in the Pocket (0080) the other amazing One Year War side story. The original is quite good but suffers from dated animation and dialogue that is inexplicably silly because it was one of the first serious anime and still didn't have that quite down (it had some "Speed Racer-esque" humor). But a very good show iwth some great characters but it never flew in the States because of its very dated look and animation.

That's too bad. I hear Zeta is much better (about the war years later from 0079 in which Amuro and Char are fighting on the same side!) but it is ironically one of the few I haven't seen (though I hear UC fans claim it ot be the best Gundam series) and I saw Char's Counterattack, which was the movie finale to the UC timeline when Char (surprise-surprise) turns on the Earth...again.

But I do highly recomend Gundam Wing if you haven't seen it. Just watch it straight through and not read any fan fiction of it on the internet or heated debates and make up your own mind about the characters that for the most part change radically throughout the series.

I suppose you got a point a point about Aina. She just seemed a little oblivious until she met Shiro. Shiro was inexperienced but he just didn't bug me as much.

I do agree 08th is better than 0080 i notice purists prefer 0080 and it is mostly because of its ending but it was still an awesome show.

I can also understand why you did not care for Wing. It is by far (I hnaven't really watched the Seed series' though, so I don't know for sure or Turn a Gundam) the most convoluted of the Gundam shows and complex. That may be why it is my favorite as it feels a little more realistic and less clear cut (albeit the fact that SO MUCH *beep* happened in one year is unbelievable)....but if you missed a few episodes of it you would be completely lost. And Wufei did suck.

And Zechs was pretty cool until the last 10 episodes. His self-righteous Char-esque manuevers as leader of the White Fang turned him into a character more dellusional and out of touch with reality than Treize (who was outdated and suffered from inane logic ina graceful way), Wufei and Guniess combined.

But sitll a cool character.

I agree about G Gundam being a ridiculous show.

Yeah MSG is great stuff. But it suffers from very dated animation and silly dialogue (which pretty much every Gundam show until 08th IMO did that I've seen). But it is a great show despite the "silly super-robot-ness of it" and quickly check out Zeta afterwards. Wing is also very good but also suffers like MSG from really silly and sometimes inane dialogue (Relena was a good character but the writers did not know how to put words in her mouth properly half the time) and also has the super-robot/super-pilots that never die syndrom too.

I understand the One Year War kick. I personally think the UC timeline is far more interesting than AC, CE (which sucks) and whatever G Gundam had. UC was just a great basic timeline that provided a backdrop for many rich stories. I just think the side stories (08th, 0080, 0083, Side Story and I think you could argue Zeta being a side story are all more entertaining that MSG, IMO).

But both are good shows. I think Aina really came into her own when she returned from the snowy mountain and didn't take *beep* from anyone anymore. I suppose, like Gunias there just was not enough time with her on such a short run before it ended, though.

Yeah I feel 08th is a nice tight storyline. That gets from A to B, perfectly well with great explanations. I also give credit to 0080 and Zeta for doing this.

But many Gundam shows, even my favorite, Wing, have some large jumps that you have to fill in for yourself. For example the change in many personalities between the series and Endless Waltz is a bit jarring and silly. 08th explains itself well, every step of the way.

Hm, I've never seen Miller's Report.

I guess there is a jump there but it never bugged me (mind you I hear the episode 8 we get in the States filled with scenes from Miller's Report at the beginning).

I do maybe a few more episodes of the MS Team working together before Elleadore was kidnapped would have been nice and maybe a few more fter Kiki's Village got devestated. But the pacing was extremely tight. Something I notice the short Gundam series (this, 0080, 0083, etc.) have but is completely lacking in the main 50 episodes series from every era.

I too think that The 08th MS Team is the best Gundam Series. It's great the whole way through... although Miller's Report is somewhat lacking.

Shiro is too corny.

0080 is my personal fav.
